Crypto access: Is it possible to use cryptocurrencies in scholarly periodicals?

【Abstract】This case study considers the challenges facing academic journals issued by small publishers and the possibility of applying blockchain-based cryptocurrencies in a way that does not require significant changes to the traditional model of a scientific journal. We describe possible points of integration for crypto assets into a scientific journal and user experience with crypto wallets. We suggest a basic algorithm for allocation of tokens in open access and subscription journals and provide a case study of the implementation of the suggested approach in an existing online journal. We describe the challenges that have arisen during the 1.5 years of testing.
