A blockchain assisted multi-gateway authentication scheme for IIoT based on group

【Abstract】The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has been universally applied in all aspects of industrial production, contributing to the development of communication technology. As a result, its security is now strongly and critically related to production process safety and even national security. However, since data communication in IIoT is dependent upon the public channel, messages are vulnerable to eavesdropping and tampering, bringing significant risks to industrial production systems. A secure and effective authentication scheme is vital to ensure the security of IIoT. In addition, the resources required for the sensors used in IIoT are often restricted due to deployment in complex production environment. Since energy consumption is related to the distance over which the communication occurs, the widely-used single gateway model is not effective for energy saving of sensors. Therefore, we propose a multi-gateway authentication scheme and adopt dynamic authentication credentials to provide better security strategies. In order to ensure that the update takes effect on all distributed gateways, the consensus algorithm of blockchain is used to synchronize information. The consensus algorithm reduces overhead through group policy optimization. Finally, AVISPA simulation, Burrows Abadi Needham logic(BAN-Logic), and informal security analyses are adopted to confirm the security. A performance analysis during an NS-3 simulation proves the effectiveness and practicality of the scheme.
