【Abstract】Due to the lack of supervision in the decentralized exchanges (DEXs), arbitrageurs can utilize information and take advantage of price gap to make profits over such platforms such as Ethereum blockchain. DEX arbitrage poses possibilities and opportunities for defrauding and can seriously impair the operation of the Ethereum ecosystem. It motivates this work to explore and characterize the unique features of arbitrage which differ from other frauds such as money laundering and Ponzi games for better detection. This work makes the first attempt for detecting arbitrage on Ethereum through feature fusion and positive-unlabeled learning (PU learning). We first conduct an in-depth analysis and exploit two-fold arbitrage features by fusion including: 1) statistical features that explicitly represent the node activity levels according to expert knowledge; and 2) structural features that implicitly encode the transactions information by graph machine learning. We then apply PU learning to generate negative instances for compensating the imbalanced arbitrage datasets. We evaluate our proposed method through extensive experiments over a real-world clataset and demonstrate that it can achieve 90% accuracy in detecting arbitrage activities on Ethereum.

【Abstract】This article proposes SilentDelivery, a secure, scalable, and cost-efficient protocol for implementing timed information delivery service in a decentralized blockchain network. SilentDelivery employs a novel combination of threshold secret sharing and decentralized smart contracts. The protocol maintains shares of the decryption key of the private information of an information sender using a group of mailman recruited in a blockchain network before the specified future time-frame and restores the information to the information recipient at the required time-frame. To tackle the key challenges that limit the security and scalability of the protocol, SilentDelivery incorporates two novel countermeasure strategies. The first strategy, namely silent recruitment, enables a mailman to get recruited by a sender silently without the knowledge of any third party. The second strategy, namely dual-mode execution, makes the protocol run in a lightweight mode by default, where the cost of running smart contracts is significantly reduced. We rigorously analyze the security of SilentDelivery and implement the protocol over the Ethereum official test network. The results demonstrate that SilentDelivery is more secure and scalable compared to the state of the art and reduces the cost of running smart contracts by 85 percent.

【Abstract】We examine the drivers of Bitcoin volatility and discuss possible future developments, specifically what conditions need to be met for the volatility to decrease. Our instrumental variables analysis implies there needs to be a considerable inflow of small users into the system who are ideally not exchange traders and they do perform small transfers. Increasing exchange volume, on-chain transfers value, and Bitcoin price by themselves increase volatility of the cryptoasset.

【Abstract】The blockchain, a decentralized ledger system, has been considered a revolutionary technology to transform businesses, including the financial markets. As peer-to-peer (P2P) lending is also known for decentralization in the sense that individuals borrow from and lend to each other directly, bypassing traditional banks, we explore the possibility and benefits of blockchains in P2P lending. We first provide an economic analysis of existing P2P lending problems, including herding and platform-borrower collusion, with and without the blockchain mechanism. We note that, compared with the existing markets, blockchain-backed P2P lending is highly effective in privacy preservation and borrower quality distinction. Since the role of intermediaries is eliminated in the blockchain world, the chance of platform borrower collusion is also minimized. Moreover, we show that borrowers and lenders can expect additional surplus when the origination fee in traditional P2P lending is replaced with a smaller tokenization cost and when borrowers present a more accurate financial incentive in a smart contract. With the smart contract, borrowers are allowed to propose optimal interest rates based on their creditworthiness and capacity of repayment while detailed personal information is not required. Additionally, we demonstrate that small investors' surplus can be further enhanced due to the elimination of herding.

【Abstract】Recent studies find jumps in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, however, little is known about the behavior of self -exciting jump clustering. Using high frequency data, we investigate the characteristics of self-exciting jumps in Bitcoin returns. First, we find strong asymmetry in self-excitation, which is triggered, on average, more by bad (negative) jumps than good (positive) jumps. Second, when discriminating bear and bull markets, we find negative asymmetry in bear markets but no evidence of positive asymmetry in bull markets. Third, self-excitation has asymmetric aftershock effects, where aftershocks triggered by bad self-excitation are more persistent than aftershocks triggered by good self-excitation. The findings presented in this paper have important implications in risk management and asset pricing for Bitcoin.

【Abstract】Interactions between stock and cryptocurrency markets have experienced shifts and changes in their dynamics. In this paper, we study the connection between S&P500 and Bitcoin in higher-order moments, specifically up to the fourth conditional moment, utilizing the time-scale perspective of the wavelet coherence analysis. Using data from 19 August 2011 to 14 January 2022, the results show that the co-movement between Bitcoin and S&P500 is moment-dependent and varies across time and frequency. There is very weak or even nonexistent connection between the two markets before 2018. Starting 2018, but mostly 2019 onwards, the interconnections emerge. The co-movements between the volatility of Bitcoin and S&P500 intensified around the COVID-19 outbreak, especially at mid-term scales. For skewness and kurtosis, the co-movement is stronger and more significant at mid- and long-term scales. A partial-wavelet coherence analysis underlines the intermediating role of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) in provoking the Bitcoin-S&P500 nexus. These results reflect the co-movement between US stock and Bitcoin markets beyond the second moment of return distribution and across time scales, suggesting the relevance and importance of considering fat tails and return asymmetry when jointly considering US equity-Bitcoin trading or investments and the policy formulation for the sake of US market stability.

【Abstract】Blockchain has been increasingly used as a component to enable decentralisation in software architecture for a variety of applications. Blockchain governance has received considerable attention to ensure the safe and appropriate use and evolution of blockchain, especially after the Ethereum DAO attack in 2016. However, there are no systematic efforts to analyse existing governance solutions. To understand the state-of-the-art of blockchain governance, we conducted a systematic literature review with 37 primary studies. The extracted data from primary studies are synthesised to answer identified research questions. The study results reveal several major findings: (1) governance can improve the adaptability and upgradability of blockchain, whilst the current studies neglect broader ethical responsibilities as the objectives of blockchain governance; (2) governance is along with the development process of a blockchain platform, while ecosystem-level governance process is missing, and; (3) the responsibilities and capabilities of blockchain stakeholders are briefly discussed, whilst the decision rights, accountability, and incentives of blockchain stakeholders are still under studied. We provide actionable guidelines for academia and practitioners to use throughout the lifecycle of blockchain, and discuss future trends to support researchers in this area. (c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. Improving Bitcoin's Post-Quantum Transaction Efficiency With a Novel Lattice-Based Aggregate Signature Scheme Based on CRYSTALS-Dilithium and a STARK Protocol

【Abstract】This paper proposes a novel lattice-based aggregate signature (LAS) scheme that brings post-quantum security to the Bitcoin system without sacrificing its transaction efficiency. Bitcoin currently employs Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), which is insecure against the emerging quantum technology, so post-quantum signature schemes like the proposed LAS will become necessary in the near future. However, most of the post-quantum signatures schemes have large signature sizes which decrease Bitcoin's efficiency. Even CRYSTALS-Dilithium, the most prominent post-quantum signature scheme chosen by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has this adverse limitation: it would cause Bitcoin's transaction efficiency to fall by 17 times from 2759.36622 transactions per block (tpb) to 159.48374 tpb. The existing signature schemes are unable to resolve this efficiency problem for Bitcoin. We crafted a novel LAS scheme based on CRYSTALS-Dilithium and a zero-knowledge Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge (STARK) protocol to tackle this problem. The proposed LAS scheme takes full advantage of signature aggregation using the STARK protocol and Dilithium's easy and fast implementation, thus generating signatures with post-quantum security and small signature sizes which are critical to transaction efficiency. Our proofs convey the correctness, compactness, and post-quantum security of our scheme in the quantum random oracle model, and our implementation in Python conveyed that the proposed scheme would only decrease Bitcoin's transaction efficiency by 3 times, a significant improvement from using Dilithium and other lattice-based aggregate signature schemes. Our proposed scheme has many advantages over the existing schemes and will become very valuable to Bitcoin.

【Abstract】Community detection is essential in P2P network analysis as it helps identify connectivity structure, undesired centralization, and influential nodes. Existing methods primarily utilize topological data and neglect the rich content data. This paper proposes a technique combining topological and content data to detect communities inside the Bitcoin network using a deep feature representation algorithm and Deep Feedforward Autoencoders. Our results show that the Bitcoin network has a higher clustering coefficient, assortativity coefficient, and community structure than expected from a random P2P network. In the Bitcoin network, nodes prefer to connect to other nodes that share the same characteristics.

【Abstract】As an essential part of the intelligent transportation system, vehicular ad hoc network plays a vital role in the application of the Internet of Vehicles and security services. However, as the scale of the network continues to increase, trust-based access and data sharing between vehicles have also become essential security issues. Given how to allocate vehicle resources safely, efficiently and reliably, this paper proposes a blockchain-based key data sharing mechanism for the Internet of Vehicles. We first utilize certificateless public key cryptography to alleviate redundancy overhead and key escrow issues. Second, with the help of the security, decentralization, and non-tampering characteristics of the blockchain, two smart contracts are designed and used to realize vehicle identity management and data access control. The identity chain smart contract solves the security problem of vehicle identity management, and the data chain smart contract ensures reliable transaction verification and efficient resource management. At the same time, an auction method is proposed to facilitate vehicle resource transactions. The experimental results show that our solution can realize secure data sharing of the Internet of Vehicles and ensure the operating efficiency of the system. Regarding system overhead, the proposed scheme has 30.6% and 33% lower private key generation overhead and 3.3% and 20.1% lower resource transaction time than AFSN and BSM under the same conditions. In addition, using our bidding method in data chain smart contracts can have a regulatory effect on market data transactions. In the aspect of resource transaction efficiency, for the change of the number of buyers, the transaction completion rate and transaction time of the proposed scheme are better than those of the contrast scheme. When the number of buyers is 100, the transaction completion rate was 9.2% higher than that of AFSN and 17.3% higher than that of BAM. The transaction time of the scheme is 32.2% and 48.1% lower than that of AFSN and BSM, respectively.

【Abstract】Purpose: The recent development in logistics due to the dawn of Logistics 4.0 has made global logistics providers more dependent on intelligent technologies. In this era, these technologies assist in data collection and transmission of logistical data and pose many security and privacy threats in logistics management systems. The customer's private information, which is shared among the logistics stakeholders for optimal operation, faces unauthorized access due to a lack of privacy. This, amongst others, is a critical problem that needs to be addressed with blockchain. Blockchain is a disruptive technology that is transforming different sectors, and it has the potential to provide a solution to the issues mentioned above, with its unique features such as immutability, transparency, and anonymity. Method: This study designed a blockchain-based logistics management architecture on a decentralized peer-2-peer network using Ethereum smart contracts. The proposed system deployed the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) asymmetric encryption method to protect the logistics system from cyber-attacks and secure customers' private information from unauthorized access. Findings: Furthermore, the security and privacy of the proposed system are evaluated based on the theorem. The proof shows that the system can provide security to the logistics system and privacy to customers' private data. The performance evaluation is based on throughput and latency. It shows that the proposed system is better than the baseline system, and the comparatives analysis shows that the proposed system is more secure and efficient than the existing systems. Implication and Limitation: The proposed system offers a better solution to the security/privacy of the logistics management system and provides recommendations to key stakeholders involved in the logistics industry while adopting blockchain technology. Apart from the study's methodological limitation, it is also limited by a lack of reference materials.

【Abstract】Security faces huge challenges in Internet of Things (IoT) environments. In particular, conventional access control standards and models tend to be less tailored for IoT due to the constrained nature of smart objects. Usually, a powerful third party is used to handle the access control logic. However, this third party is lacking in transparency and could harm user privacy. Therefore, providing a distributed access control solution, while considering transparency and privacy-preserving awareness in IoT smart systems, is of paramount importance. The described issue can be addressed using the emergent Blockchain technology that provides a promising choice to build a new generation of decentralized and transparent access control solutions. This paper proposes a smart contract-based access control framework for IoT smart healthcare systems, which is based on smart contracts to provide a distributed and trustworthy access control, combined with the GTRBAC model to express fine-grained access control policies while considering temporal authorization constraints. To prove the feasibility and validity of the proposed framework, this paper also provides a detailed technical description and an initial implementation and execution. An experimental evaluation shows that security properties' analyses on smart contracts achieved the best possible evaluation with no vulnerabilities found, and the cost of access control operations increases linearly as the number of policy constraints increases. Besides, a comparative analysis reveals that the proposed approach can achieve good results with low gas costs and latency.

【Abstract】This paper examines the trading performances of several technical oscillators created using crypto-asset pricing methods for short-term bitcoin trading. Seven pricing models proposed in the professional and academic literature were transformed into oscillators, and two thresholds were introduced to create buy and sell signals. The empirical back-testing analysis showed that some of these methods proved to be profitable with good Sharpe ratios and limited max drawdowns. However, the trading performances of almost all methods significantly worsened after 2017, thus indirectly confirming an increasing financial literature that showed that the introduction of bitcoin futures in 2017 improved the efficiency of bitcoin markets.

【Abstract】The time series movements of Bitcoin prices are commonly characterized as highly nonlinear and volatile in nature across economic periods, when compared to the characteristics of traditional asset classes, such as equities and commodities. From a risk management perspective, such behaviors pose challenges, given the difficulty in quantifying and modeling Bitcoin's price volatility. In this study, we propose hybrid analytical techniques that combine the strengths of the non-stationary properties of Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models with the nonlinear modeling capabilities of deep learning algorithms, such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), and Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) algorithms with single, double, and triple layer network architectures to forecast Bitcoin's realized price volatility. Our findings, both in-sample and out-of-sample, show that such hybrid models can generate accurate forecasts of Bitcoin's price volatility.

【Abstract】This study aims to forecast extreme fluctuations of Bitcoin returns. Bitcoin is the first decentralized and the largest, in terms of capitalization, cryptocurrency. A well-timed and precise forecast of extreme changes in Bitcoin returns is key to market participants since they may trigger large-scale selling or buying strategies that may crucially impact the cryptocurrency markets. We term the instances of extreme Bitcoin movement as 'spikes'. In this paper, spikes are defined as the returns instances that outreach a two-standard deviations band around the mean value. Instead of the unconditional historic standard deviation that is usually used, in this paper, we utilized a GARCH(p,q) model to derive the conditional standard deviation. We claim that the conditional standard deviation is a more suitable measure of on-the-spot risk than the overall standard deviation. The forecasting operation was performed using the support vector machines (SVM) methodology from machine learning. The most accurate forecasting model that we created reached 79.17% out-of-sample forecasting accuracy regarding the spikes cases and 87.43% regarding the non-spikes ones.

【Abstract】Owing to the high penetration of cryptocurrencies in the Turkish Economy, we sought to determine whether cryptocurrencies as represented by Bitcoin has become a global risk for the Turkish Lira. To accomplish this, we model the Turkish Lira exchange rate returns volatility using threshold GARCH-M with Bitcoin as an exogenous covariate. Bitcoin was found to be a contributor to Turkish forex volatility up until January 2018 when the 'ongoing' currency crisis started. Bitcoin, however, lost its volatility contributory power from January 2018. This result is robust to the inclusion of CBOE-VIX, iShares MSCI Turkey EFT, and the dollar-lira interest rate differential as control variables.
