Understanding and predicting the determinants of blockchain technology adoption and SMEs' performance

【Abstract】PurposeThe success of SMEs' financial and market performance (MAP) depends on the firms' level of blockchain technology adoption (BCA) and identifying the crucial antecedents that influence SMEs' adoption. Therefore, this research attempts to develop an integrated model to understand and predict the determinants of BCA and its effect on SMEs' performance. The purpose of this paper is to address this issue.Design/methodology/approachThe theoretical foundations are the technology-organization -environment (TOE) framework and the resource-based view (RBV) perspective. The authors distributed a survey to SMEs in South Africa and received 311 responses. The covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) followed by the artificial neural network (ANN) technique was used for the data analysis.FindingsThe SEM results showed that SMEs' relative advantage, compatibility, top management support (TMS), organizational readiness (ORD), competitive pressures (COP), external support, regulations and legislation significantly influence SMEs' BCA. However, complexity negatively impacts SMEs' BCA. The analysis results also revealed that SMEs' BCA significantly influences the financial performance of the firms, followed by MAP. Furthermore, model determinants were input to an ANN modeling. The ANN results showed that TMS is the most critical predictor of SMEs' BCA, followed by ORD, COP, external support, and regulations and legislation.Practical implicationsThe results provide valuable information for SMEs when maneuvering their adoption strategies in the scope of blockchain technology. Additionally, from the perspective of an emerging market, the study has successfully contributed the TOE framework and the RBV.Originality/valueThis study is the first work to explore the determinants of BCA in the context of SMEs from a developing country. This paper is also one pioneer in attempts to develop a causal and predictive statistical model for predicting the determinants of BCA in SMEs' performance.

Blockchain technology implementation challenges in supply chains - evidence from the case studies of multi-stakeholders

【Abstract】PurposeThe aim of the research is to identify and prioritise the implementation challenges of blockchain technology and suggests ways for its implementation in supply chains.Design/methodology/approachUnderlined by the technology, organisational, and external environment model, a conceptual framework with four challenge categories and sixteen challenges is proposed. Data collected from three stakeholder groups with experience in the implementation of blockchain technology in India is analysed by employing an analytical hierarchy process method-based case study. Further, a criticality-effort matrix analysis is performed to group challenges and suggest ways for implementation.FindingsThe analysis revels that all stakeholders perceive complexity challenge associated with the technology, organisational structure, and external environment, and issues of compatibility with existing systems, software, and business practices to be high on the criticality and effort scales, which thus require meticulous planning to manage. Likewise, top-management support issues related to insufficient understanding of how technology fits with the organisation's policy and benefits offered by the technology requires high effort to address this challenge.Research limitations/implicationsThe results were obtained by focusing on the Indian context and therefore may not apply to other nations' contexts.Practical implicationsBy investigating the challenges that the developers, consultants, and client organisations need to address, this study assists managers in developing plans to facilitate coordination among these organisations for successful blockchain implementation.Originality/valueTo the authors' knowledge this study is the first to identify and prioritise the challenges from the perspectives of multiple stakeholder groups with experience in blockchain technology implementation.

【Abstract】This research shows a Viable Supply Chain with Vendor Managed Inventory approach by considering Blockchain, Risk, and Robustness. We embedded Blockchain Technology (BCT) to improve SC agility. To tackle risk and robustness, we suggest a new objective function with the weighted expected value, worst case, and Entropic Value at Risk for considering risk and robustness under different scenarios. This model is Mixed-Integer Linear Programming, and GAMS-Bonmin is utilized to solve it. The case study of this research is on the Pharmacy industry. We compare problems in the situation with BCT and without BCT. The results show that the cost function of the main problem without BCT is greater than the same problem with BCT, and its gaps are 0.61%. Finally, the cost function increase by increasing the conservative coefficient and decreasing the resiliency coefficient. The cost function reduces by increasing the confidence level. We change the scale of the problem and define problems. By increasing the scale of the problem, the solution time increased.

Tamper-proof multitenant data storage using blockchain

【Abstract】Technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), cloud, artificial intelligence, blockchain etc. have become a perceptible part of our lives resulting in the generation of enormous amounts of data. Consequently, the systems used for storage and processing of this data are required to be scalable for handling the huge volumes of data. A shared, multitenant system such as a cloud-based storage-as-a-service provides scalability of storage as well as economics of sharing. However, there is a risk of data tampering when multiple tenants work in a shared environment. The benefits of a multitenant solution can be leveraged only if tenants' data is isolated from each other. Further, prevention of data tampering from malicious tenant nodes is also required. Therefore, the paper proposes the use of a private blockchain for an implementation of a multi-tenant-based storage system. The objective is to develop a scalable system where tenants' data is not at a risk of tampering. The efficacy of the proposed system has been demonstrated with synthetic data of multiple tenants using a Software as a Service (SaaS) healthcare application.

A blockchain shard storage model suitable for multi-view

【Abstract】Blockchain storage scalability research, mainly including large file storage and full node storage scalability, helps to enable blockchain technology to be better applied in application scenarios with large-scale data. Multi-View application scenarios in which an object is represented by multiple view information and the view information is interconnected and needs to be stored. However, the current single-view storage scheme is not applicable to multi-view, and the computation overhead of the recursion-based multisecret sharing is relatively high. Therefore, in this paper, we integrate the above two researches, and propose a blockchain shard storage model suitable for multi-view. Specifically, we first reduce the storage overhead of IPFS and the hash number stored in the blockchain using an image stitching design. We then relieve the storage pressure of full nodes using Shamir secret sharing (SSS) to divide the transaction data into shares to form n data blocks. Finally, we improve the recursion-based multisecret sharing by optimizing the polynomial construction and reducing the number of computations of the Lagrangian interpolation algorithm to reduce computation overhead. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model, we design an Appearance Design Patent (ADP) architecture, use it as a case study, and test the performance of the proposed model through simulation experiments. The results show that our model can significantly reduce storage. Meanwhile, our model has good performance compared to other schemes and recursion-based multisecret sharing.

Blockchain-enabled solution for secure and scalable V2V video content dissemination

【Abstract】Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) video content dissemination is fundamental for many emerging services (e.g., on-road entertainment and roadside surveillance). However, many security, privacy, and trust issues hinder the large-scale promotion of this service. Malicious entities may spread incomplete and illegal content or defraud the requester to obtain rewards. Moreover, resource consumption and possible privacy leakage issues decrease the participation of many vehicle users. To address these issues, we propose a blockchain-based trust and scalable V2V video content dissemination framework to create an excellent content caching and sharing ecosystem with resistance to diverse attacks and adaptation to high mobility. Under a decentralized framework, a fair reward strategy is designed to price each video content transaction as a V2V service fee. A vehicle-group selection policy for many-to-one video content delivery is developed to minimize service fees subject to the constraints of the number of video layers, vehicle reputation, V2V connection duration, and achievable transmission rate. Smart contracts are designed to regulate transaction triggering, verification, and rewards, with a traceable punishment mechanism against malicious behaviors. We provide the proposed scheme's security analysis and simulation results, demonstrating our scheme's security, feasibility, and superiority.

Consumer adoption of blockchain food traceability: effects of innovation-adoption characteristics, expertise in food traceability and blockchain technology, and segmentation

【Abstract】PurposeThis study explores the influence of the following factors on consumer adoption of blockchain food traceability (BFT): innovation-adoption characteristics, segmentation, expertise in food traceability, expertise in blockchain technology, food categorical preferences and perceived important features of BFT.Design/methodology/approachThe data was collected via an online questionnaire with 1,401 participants in New Zealand. Exploratory factor analysis, structural equation modelling and segmentation analysis were undertaken.FindingsConsumer adoption of blockchain food traceability was significantly influenced by two innovation-adoption characteristics - perceived incentives and perceived complexity, as well as their expertise in food traceability. Two consumer segments were identified: Conservatives (48%) and Pioneers (52%). Significant differences were found between these two segments in terms of gender, age, education, occupation, residential area and ethnicity. Consumers are more willing to use BFT for purchasing fresh, imported, staple and normal foods than for processed, domestic and upscale foods. Their perceived important specific features of BFT are product origin, food safety information, quality control, food safety information, hygienic condition and scarcity management.Originality/valueThis study contributes knowledge to address the current knowledge gap regarding consumer adoption of blockchain food traceability by using a large sample set. It is also the first study to recognise consumer segments for BFT; to provide information about consumers' important socio-demographic characteristics, food categorical preferences and perceived important features towards BFT; and to explore the influences of consumers' innovation-adoption characteristics, expertise in food traceability and expertise in blockchain technology on their adoption of blockchain food traceability.

【Abstract】PurposeThis study aims to analyse how the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies can help different types of agri-food supply chains introduce and manage innovations in response to the challenges and opportunities that emerged following the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review methodology was used to bring together the most relevant contributions from different disciplines and provide comprehensive results on the use of I4.0 technologies in the agri-food industry.FindingsFour technological clusters are identified, which group together the I4.0 technologies based on the applications in the agri-food industry, the objectives and the advantages provided. In addition, three types of agri-food supply chains have been identified and their configuration and dynamics have been studied. Finally, the I4.0 technologies most suited for each type of supply chain have been identified, and suggestions on how to effectively introduce and manage innovations at different levels of the supply chain are provided.Originality/valueThe study highlights how the effective adoption of I4.0 technologies in the agri-food industry depends on the characteristics of the supply chains. Technologies can be used for different purposes and managers should carefully consider the objectives to be achieved and the synergies between technologies and supply chain dynamics.

Impact of blockchain and distributed ledger technology for the management, protection, enforcement and monetization of intellectual property: a systematic literature review

【Abstract】In an increasingly global, connected, and digital world, the management, protection, enforcement and monetization of intellectual property has never been so challenging and critical at the same time. Challenging because intellectual property, especially in a digital form, can be easily copied, deployed, stolen or misappropriated. Critical because nowadays intellectual property is everywhere, it is present in all areas of economic activities, it enables companies to create competitive moat and its attached monetary value is material. Knowledge should also be openly available; therefore, intellectual property law is basically about finding the right balance between authors & PRIME; interests (protection, enforcement, monetization) and users' interests (usage, access). Blockchain and its underlying technology of distributed ledgers has the potential to disrupt the way intellectual properties are managed, protected and monetized. Where the access and distribution of content has been revolutionized by the internet, distributed ledger technology might offer an alternative path helping intellectual property law enter the digital age and address its original intent which is at its core to protect and reward creators, enable open access to knowledge in order to foster innovation. In this paper we conduct a PRISMA guided systematic literature review of 176 scientific publications in the field of blockchain-based management of intellectual property. We use a PESTEL framework to investigate the benefits as well as the limitations of using distributed ledger technology to manage intellectual property. Additionally, we provide recommendations on how the identified challenges can be addressed, as well as future research directions.

Analysis of investment and decision-making based on ESG token platform under jump-diffusion

【Abstract】Token financing is operated by a platform based on blockchain technology. This paper mainly studies the influence of ESG factors on the decision-making of various participants on the platform and analyses the influence of the persistent shock environment on the operation of the token platform. We first characterise developers' token holdings by a jump-diffusion stochastic differential equation. Besides, the nonpecuniary benefits specific to the ESG environment is introduced to the developers' objective function and an incentive of government capital gain tax for green platform developers is also considered. Moreover, the Hamilton-Jacob-Bellman (HJB) equation satisfied by the developers' value function is derived while the equilibrium price of the token is obtained. Then, we compare the differences between some features, which include users' transaction volume, speculators' transaction volume and expected token returns, on the green platform (ESG score greater than 0) and the same features on the brown one (ESG score less than 0). We also analyse the impact of speculators' ESG preferences on the expected token returns, users' and speculators' transaction volume. Finally, by using numerical simulation, we illustrate the impact of the intensity of persistent shock and investment risk (token return volatility) on the operation of the token platform.

Evolutionary gravitational neocognitron neural network based block chain technology for a secured dynamic optimal routing in wireless sensor networks

【Abstract】In this manuscript, Evolutionary Gravitational Neocognitron Neural-Network-based Block chain Technology is proposed for a Secured Dynamic Optimal Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (BT-SDOR-WSN-EGNNN). The purpose of block chain (BC) technology is to distribute the distributed routing information management depending on secure BC token transactions. The Proof-of-Authority (PoA)-based consensus process is selected for effectual transaction in BC wireless sensor networks. The Evolutionary Gravitational Neocognitron Neural Network (EGNNN) is considered to select salient nodes denote the features of node-based validators. The Evolutionary Gravitational Neocognitron Neural Network model enhances the collection of validators by the attributes corresponding to every node. Then, Trust-Based Secure Intelligent Opportunistic Routing Protocol (TBSIOP) is employed to assist routing nodes and makes more informed routing decisions and choose the dependable routing links. The proposed approach is simulated in Network Simulator (NS-2) tool. The performance metrics, such as average latency, average energy consumption, and throughput of blockchain token transactions, is examined. From the simulation, the proposed BT-SDOR-WSN-EGNNN method attains 76.26%, 65.57%, 48.99%, 42.9% lesser delay during 25% malicious routing environment, 73.06%, 63.82%, 59.25%, 38.84% lesser delay during 50% malicious routing environment analysed to the existing BT-SDOR-WSN-DCNN, BT-SDOR-WSN-MDP, BT-SDOR-WSN-RL and BT-SDOR-WSN-WL-DCNN methods.

Factors affecting the blockchain application in construction management in China: an ANP-SWOT hybrid approach

【Abstract】As a decentralised ledger and data management technology, blockchain has attracted increasing interest and has been effectively applied in various areas. Despite its promising potential, there are few studies proposing effective strategies for promoting blockchain, particularly in providing a strategic analysis of blockchain in China's construction management. This study aims to investigate the external and internal environments of blockchain application and determine the roadmaps and strategies for blockchain application in construction management in China. A strength, weaknesses, opportunity, and threat (SWOT) analysis is employed to draw a panorama of the blockchain development status. Six roadmaps and strategies for blockchain application are proposed. By using the Analytic Network Process (ANP), a quantitative analysis was conducted to determine the ranking of SWOT sub-factors and roadmaps and strategies. The results show that 'traceability of information', 'high application threshold', 'national policy support', and 'low informatization level of the construction industry' are the most important sub-factors in strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats respectively. The best roadmaps and strategies are 'improving the informatization level of the construction industry', followed by 'promoting the technological innovation of blockchain' and 'providing standard'. This study facilitates an in-depth understanding of the blockchain application in China's construction management. It will not only help researchers to conduct targeted blockchain research for more efficient project management, but also help practitioners to develop effective strategies for adopting blockchain.

Blockchain-based Light-weight Authentication Approach for a Multiple Wireless Sensor Network

【Abstract】The Internet of Things (IoT) uses Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to gather data from particular locations. Environmental monitoring, Army, agronomic, disaster risk management, and tracking systems are just a few of the industries that heavily rely on the WSN of the IoT. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is the massive number of sensor nodes dispatched to track a large area, where the control strategies are frequently challenging. In order to prepare these networks for the market, sufficient protection requirements for medium- and large-scale WSNs are a challenging and important target to achieve. To ensure its security, node identity authentication is a significant one. So, we proposed a public blockchain-based multi-wireless sensor network verification method through a Light-Weight Authentication Algorithm (LWAA) for IoT which is used to enhance the secure authentication and performance in WSN in a multi-Wireless Sensor Network model. Here, the nodes are separated between access points, group head nodes, and regular nodes indicated by their power variations that are created into a hierarchical model. The common authentication of nodes in a number of communication scenarios is identified through blockchain. Our cryptography technique enhances the network life span and decreases the computation time efficiently. The evaluated performance in total power consumption, throughput, latency, packet delivery ratio, time computation, and also proved better results in comparison with the existing authentication methods such as ECDSA, EIBAS, ECBR, and AES.

【摘要】元宇宙强调全感官的延伸弥补了网络时代单一注重视觉文化的缺点。社交被看作是元宇宙研究的一个重要分支,当人能够在虚拟时空实现“真实交流”时,人际传播将回到全感官的部落化时代。把元宇宙视为人际传播重返部落化的新形式,在提出网络时代人际传播的问题之后,以元宇宙为基点,具身传播和媒介技术沦为工具,认为元宇宙将塑造人际传播新景观。这种部落化不是复刻史前人类的互动圈子文化,而是以崭新的拟真化形式回归,它是现代技术发展的终极产物。元宇宙的拟真不仅将实现未来新型全真虚拟在场,也将传播学的视角拉回了身体本位,重新思考身体在传播中的关系,为传播身体研究提供了一种新思路。

【摘要】数字人民币是反洗钱的新方法、新工具,其遵循传统“中央银行—商业银行”二元模式进行发行和运营,采用中心化的管理模式、可追溯的交易机制和“可控式匿名”钱包,能将部分流通中的现金纳入反洗钱监测范围,在打破义务机构之间数据壁垒的同时,增强对低价值数据的筛选能力,进而增加犯罪分子的机会成本,有效解决当前反洗钱领域存在的难题。
