【Abstract】Peer-to-peer (P2P) electricity trading has received a lot of attention in the last decade and recently there has been growing interest in the evaluation of market design, classical methods, and novel approaches for multi-energy trading. The existing literature only focused on electricity/electric-gas/electric-heat networks. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of P2P multi-energy trading (P2P-MET) in a decentralized network is required for the multi-energy like electricity, hydrogen gas, and heat all in one framework for a sustainable future. This review study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of P2P-MET in a decentralized network including layers-defined multi-source network configurations, trading platforms, classical methods, novel approaches, and mechanisms. Considering MET, the rising number of prosumers take advantage of the opportunity and make this complicated decentralized network more complex. To handle the network complexities, smart contracts using distributed ledger-based blockchain, novel algorithm-based game theory, and some other approaches are reviewed. Furthermore, this review study covers the limitations, challenges, opportunities, and benefits of P2P-MET as well as current trends and future directions for a better understanding of the readers. It concludes that P2P-MET using blockchain/game theory in decentralized networks is alternatively better and more secure.

【Abstract】The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is recognized as one of the revolutionary technologies driving smart manufacturing and improving productivity. As manufacturing processes grow increasingly intricate, the entire manufacturing ecosystem encompasses multiple managed IoT domains. Within this highly interconnected environment, devices from diverse domains must collaborate, leading to considerable apprehensions about the security and privacy of device-to-device communications. Current authentication methods encounter several challenges. Traditional authentication schemes overly rely on trusted third parties, rendering them susceptible to external attacks or internal spoofing. This susceptibility gives rise to a range of security and privacy concerns. In response to these challenges, this paper aims to contribute to a more secure and efficient service scheme for smart factories by devising a blockchain-based distributed IoT architecture. The proposed scheme introduces a federated blockchain to establish trust among different domains, thereby enabling secure connections between devices in distinct domains. Through security analysis, it is proved that the proposed authentication scheme has integrity, mutual authentication, scalability, and resistance to four attacks. Furthermore, efficiency analysis experiments show that our scheme is feasible for smart factories, and as the number of peer nodes increases, the performance and efficiency of the blockchain network become better.

【Abstract】The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Internet of Things (IoT) systems has gained significant attention due to its potential to improve efficiency, functionality and decision-making. To further advance research and practical implementation, it is crucial to better understand the specific roles of AI in IoT systems and identify the key application domains. In this article we aim to identify the different roles of AI in IoT systems and the application domains where AI is used most significantly. We have conducted a systematic mapping study using multiple databases, i.e., Scopus, ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore and Wiley Online. Eighty-one relevant survey articles were selected after applying the selection criteria and then analyzed to extract the key information. As a result, six general tasks of AI in IoT systems were identified: pattern recognition, decision support, decision-making and acting, prediction, data management and human interaction. Moreover, 15 subtasks were identified, as well as 13 application domains, where healthcare was the most frequent. We conclude that there are several important tasks that AI can perform in IoT systems, improving efficiency, security and functionality across many important application domains.

【Abstract】With the rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) systems, ensuring robust security measures has become paramount. Microservices Architecture (MSA) has emerged as a promising approach for enhancing IoT systems security, yet its adoption in this context lacks comprehensive analysis. This systematic review addresses this research gap by examining the incorporation of MSA in IoT systems from 2010 to 2024. From an initial pool of 4388 studies, selected articles underwent thorough quality assessment with weighted critical appraisal questions and a defined inclusion threshold. This study represents the first comprehensive systematic review to investigate the potential of microservices in IoT, with a particular focus on security aspects. The review explores the merits of MSA, highlighting twelve benefits, eight key challenges, and eight security risks. Additionally, the eight best practices for implementing MSA in IoT systems are extracted. The findings underscore MSA's utility in fortifying IoT security while also acknowledging complexities and potential vulnerabilities. Moreover, the study calls attention to the importance of incorporating complementary technologies including blockchain and machine learning to address identified gaps effectively. Finally, we propose a taxonomic classification for Microservice-based IoT security patterns, facilitating the categorization and organization of security measures in this context. Such a review can help researchers and practitioners identify existing gaps, highlight potential research directions, and provide guidelines for designing secure and efficient microservice-based IoT systems.

【Abstract】This study explores the integration of blockchain technology in wearable health devices through the design and development of a Smart Fidget Toy. We aimed to investigate design challenges and opportunities of blockchain-based health devices, examine the impact of blockchain integration user experience, and assess its potential to improve data control and user trust. Using an iterative user-centered design approach, we developed a mid-fidelity prototype of a physical fidget device with a blockchain-based web application. Our key contributions include the design of a fidget toy using blockchain for secure health data management, an iterative development process balancing user needs with blockchain integration challenges, and insights into user perceptions of blockchain wearables for health. We conducted user studies, including a survey (n = 28), focus group (n = 6), interactive wireframe testing (n = 7), and prototype testing (n = 10). Our study revealed high user interest (70%) in blockchain-based data control and sharing features and improved perceived security of data (90% of users) with blockchain integration. However, we also identified challenges in user understanding of blockchain concepts, necessitating additional support. Our smart contract, deployed on the Polygon zkEVM testnet, efficiently manages data storage and retrieval while maintaining user privacy. This research advances the understanding of blockchain applications in health wearables, offering valuable insights for the future development of this field.

【Abstract】Merkle trees play a crucial role in blockchain networks in organizing network state. They allow proving a particular value of an entry in the state to a node that maintains only the root of the Merkle trees, a hash-based signature computed over the data in a hierarchical manner. Verification of particular state entries is crucial in reaching a consensus on the execution of a block where state information is required in the processing of its transactions. For instance, a payment transaction should be based on the balance of the two involved accounts. The proof length affects the network communication and is typically logarithmic in the state size. In this paper, we take advantage of typical transaction characteristics for better organizing Merkle trees to improve blockchain network performance. We focus on the common transaction processing where Merkle proofs are jointly provided for multiple accounts. We first provide lower bounds for the communication cost that are based on the distribution of accounts involved in the transactions. We then describe algorithms that consider traffic patterns for significantly reducing it. The algorithms are inspired by various coding methods such as Huffman coding, partition and weight balancing. We also generalize our approach towards the encoding of smart contract transactions that involve an arbitrary number of accounts. Likewise, we rely on real blockchain data to show the savings allowed by our approach. The experimental evaluation is based on transactions from the Ethereum network and demonstrates cost reduction for both payment transactions and smart contract transactions.

【Abstract】Because there is a discrepancy between how individual investors and investment institutions choose Bitcoin and its new derivatives and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), this paper used Bitcoin and ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) data and a mixed variational mode decomposition and bidirectional gated cycle unit model to examine the interconnections between Bitcoin and its new derivative ETFs, from which actionable recommendations were developed. As well as conducting financial simulation trading using Bitcoin and BITO, the study expanded to examine other major ETFs. It was found that: (1) Bitcoin data could be employed to forecast and describe BITO; (2) under T +0 trading, Bitcoin was more volatile, profitable, and risky than BITO; and (3) under T +1 trading, Bitcoin was less volatile, profitable, and risky than BITO; however, the T +1 trading was found to have higher volatility, profits, and risk than T +0 trading. This study, therefore, builds a bridge from theory to practice for the prediction and description of new ETFs. Different from previous studies, this study explored the relationships between Bitcoin and BITO using Artificial Intelligence and quantitative financial simulations, which extends the practical and theoretical understanding of the Bitcoin market.

【Abstract】This paper examines the impact of the introduction of Ethereum futures contracts on the market efficiency of major cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, and Dogecoin) spot prices. Using a multifractality-based approach and daily data from September 4, 2017 to February 16, 2024, the main results show a slight improvement in market efficiency. Specifically, the degree of multifractality persistence decreases, implying reduced market inefficiencies in major cryptocurrencies. The temporal linear correlation effect and thick tail effect are less pronounced post-launch. The asymmetry of the generalized Hurst exponent increases after the launch of Ethereum futures, with a higher persistence under the downward trend of cryptocurrencies noted. This downward trend emerges after the launch of Ethereum futures, coinciding with the final stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional analysis shows that fat tails and temporal linear correlations are the main sources of multifractality. The results highlight the influence of introducing financial derivatives into the relatively new and volatile cryptocurrency area, which should concern traders, hedgers, investors, and regulators.

【Abstract】Jump dynamics in financial markets exhibit significant complexity, often resulting in increased probabilities of subsequent jumps, akin to earthquake aftershocks. This study aims to understand these complexities within a multifractal framework. To do this, we employed the high-frequency intraday data from six major cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dashcoin, EOS, and Ripple) and six major forex markets (Euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Swiss franc, and Japanese yen) between 4 August 2019 and 4 October 2023, at 5 min intervals. We began by extracting daily jumps from realized volatility using a MinRV-based approach and then applying Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) to those jumps to explore their multifractal characteristics. The results of the MFDFA-especially the fluctuation function, the varying Hurst exponent, and the Renyi exponent-confirm that all of these jump series exhibit significant multifractal properties. However, the range of the Hurst exponent values indicates that Dashcoin has the highest and Litecoin has the lowest multifractal strength. Moreover, all of the jump series show significant persistent behavior and a positive autocorrelation, indicating a higher probability of a positive/negative jump being followed by another positive/negative jump. Additionally, the findings of rolling-window MFDFA with a window length of 250 days reveal persistent behavior most of the time. These findings are useful for market participants, investors, and policymakers in developing portfolio diversification strategies and making important investment decisions, and they could enhance market efficiency and stability.

【Abstract】Cryptocurrency has become a pivotal player in global financial transactions due to its decentralized mining process, which eliminates the need for intermediaries. However, the operation of cryptocurrency mining devices (CMDs) requires significant electrical power, leading to an increase in network-connected cryptocurrency mining loads (CMLs) that pose challenges for power grid operators. This paper evaluates the integration of CMLs into power grids, focusing on distribution network performance. A technology-accepted model for assessing cryptocurrency mining performance is presented, along with an analysis of the impacts of high CML penetration on power grid planning and operation. Findings reveal that high CML penetration can complicate load forecasting, congest transmission lines, and increase the coincident peak load in distribution networks. A case study of Iran's power network indicates that CMLs account for approximately 2.8% of the nation's electricity consumption. Furthermore, if 5% of residential customers in Tehran install CMDs, the average coincident peak demand for this group rises by 26.81%. Additionally, the average power factor of a sample CMD is about 0.99, while total current distortion and third harmonic current exceed permissible limits, indicating potential power quality issues. This study highlights the challenges posed by CMLs and proposes strategies for their sustainable integration into power grids.

【Abstract】The increasing concern about the environment has led to the necessity of ensuring efficient Construction and Demolition Waste Management (C&DWM) in the built environment. Despite the extensive research on C&DWM, the industry still faces significant challenges, including inefficiencies, high costs, and environmental impacts. Meanwhile, incorporating digital technologies (DTs) has emerged as a way to eradicate the challenges of C&DW. In response to the knowledge gap, in this research, we conducted a systematic literature review (SLR), incorporating bibliometric, text-mining, and content analysis to meet the research objectives. In total, 126 papers were retrieved from the Scopus database and transferred into VOSviewer to conduct the bibliometric analysis. The findings identified seven specific DTs, namely, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Robotics, Computer Vision (CV), and Building Information modeling (BIM). This study demonstrates that these technologies play a significant role in promoting efficient C&DWM in the construction industry. The study's implication lies in its potential to guide industry stakeholders and policymakers in promoting the use of DTs and overcoming the barriers to their adoption, thereby facilitating more efficient and sustainable C&DWM practices. Finally, the findings of our research indicate possible future research directions for promoting DTs for C&DWM and eradicating the barriers to efficient implementation.

【Abstract】Featured Application Featured Application: The potential application of the work relates to novel digital twins of patients or their organs based on artificial intelligence.Abstract Digital society strategies in healthcare include the rapid development of digital twins (DTs) for patients and human organs in medical research and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical practice to develop effective treatments in a cheaper, quicker, and more effective manner. This is facilitated by the availability of large historical datasets from previous clinical trials and other real-world data sources (e.g., patient biometrics collected from wearable devices). DTs can use AI models to create predictions of future health outcomes for an individual patient in the form of an AI-generated digital twin to support the rapid assessment of in silico intervention strategies. DTs are gaining the ability to update in real time in relation to their corresponding physical patients and connect to multiple diagnostic and therapeutic devices. Support for this form of personalized medicine is necessary due to the complex technological challenges, regulatory perspectives, and complex issues of security and trust in this approach. The challenge is also to combine different datasets and omics to quickly interpret large datasets in order to generate health and disease indicators and to improve sampling and longitudinal analysis. It is possible to improve patient care through various means (simulated clinical trials, disease prediction, the remote monitoring of apatient's condition, treatment progress, and adjustments to the treatment plan), especially in the environments of smart cities and smart territories and through the wider use of 6G, blockchain (and soon maybe quantum cryptography), and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as through medical technologies, such as multiomics. From a practical point of view, this requires not only efficient validation but also seamless integration with the existing healthcare infrastructure.

【Abstract】Computing and networking are increasingly implemented in software. We design and build a software build assurance scheme detecting if there have been injections or modifications in the various steps in the software supply chain, including the source code, compiling, and distribution. Building on the reproducible build and software bill of materials (SBOM), our work is distinguished from previous research in assuring multiple software artifacts across the software supply chain. Reproducible build, in particular, enables our scheme, as our scheme requires the software materials/artifacts to be consistent across machines with the same operating system/specifications. Furthermore, we use blockchain to deliver the proof reference, which enables our scheme to be distributed so that the assurance beneficiary and verifier are the same, i.e., the node downloading the software verifies its own materials, artifacts, and outputs. Blockchain also significantly improves the assurance efficiency. We first describe and explain our scheme using abstraction and then implement our scheme to assure Ethereum as the target software to provide concrete proof-of-concept implementation, validation, and experimental analyses. Our scheme enables more significant performance gains than relying on a centralized server thanks to the use of blockchain (e.g., two to three orders of magnitude quicker in verification) and adds small overheads (e.g., generating and verifying proof have an overhead of approximately one second, which is two orders of magnitude smaller than the software download or build processes).

【Abstract】Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) is becoming a fundamental operation in current healthcare systems. In such systems, electronic health records (EHRs) are digitally stored inside each medical centers and, sometimes, are required to be shared between various healthcare facilities (HCFs). Indeed, sharing patient information is crucial and might be vulnerable to power outages, data misuse, privacy or security violations, and an audit trail. Hence, researchers have focused recently on cutting-edge technologies to develop secure HIE systems and ensure data privacy during transactions. Among such technologies, blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) occupy a vital role in researchers' focuses and efforts to detect risky transactions in HIE systems, thus enhancing their security and privacy. While the blockchain allows HCFs to link to each other without requiring a central authority, AI models offer an additional security layer when sharing patient data between HCFs. This paper presents a survey about HIE systems, and the aim is two-fold: we first present the architecture of HIE systems along with their challenges; then, we categorize and classify the current state-the-art-techniques that show the potential of using blockchain and AI technologies in such systems.

【Abstract】This article proposes a novel method for managing usage counters within an anonymous credential system, addressing the limitation of traditional anonymous credentials in tracking repeated use. The method takes advantage of blockchain technology through Smart Contracts deployed on the Ethereum network to enforce a predetermined maximum number of uses for a given credential. Users retain control over increments by providing zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) demonstrating private key possession and agreement on the increment value. This approach prevents replay attacks and ensures transparency and security. A prototype implementation on a private Ethereum blockchain demonstrates the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method, paving the way for its potential deployment in real-world applications requiring both anonymity and usage tracking.

【Abstract】Online ride-hailing services have become a vital component of urban transportation worldwide due to their convenience and flexibility. However, the expansion of their user base has dramatically heightened the risks of user privacy information leakage. Among these risks, the privacy leakage problem caused by the direct correlation between user (driver and passenger) identity information and location-based ride information is of particular concern. This paper proposes a novel privacy protection scheme for ride-hailing services. In this scheme, decentralized identities are employed for user authentication, separating the identity registration service from the ride-hailing platform, thereby preventing the platform from obtaining user privacy data. The scheme also employs a fuzzy matching strategy based on location Points of Interest (POI) and a ciphertext-policy attribute-based hybrid encryption algorithm to hide the user's precise location and restrict access to location information. Crucially, the scheme achieves the complete decoupling of identity registration services and location-based ride services on the ride-hailing platform, ensuring that users' real identities and ride data cannot be directly associated, effectively protecting user privacy. Within the decoupled architecture, regulatory authorities are established to handle emergencies within ride-hailing services. Through simulation experiments and security analysis, this scheme is demonstrated to be both feasible and practical, providing a new privacy protection solution for the ride-hailing industry.

【Abstract】Social economy actors have assisted the recovery from crises by providing innovative solutions that are aimed at strengthening public services to complement government action. Currently, the widespread use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by both citizens and organizations has changed society's routine behavior, giving rise to the so-called information society. One of the major burdens of using big data for social problems is the lack of adequate data governance standards. Challenging and critical issues about big data include privacy and security for most of the social economy field of activities. Blockchain technology has attracted the attention of academic researchers and industries, which combines technologies like cryptography, end-to-end communication, and algorithms. Moreover, blockchain technology provides user anonymity to protect the privacy of users. We propose a hierarchical blockchain system for social economy services that can effectively protect the security and privacy of users and transmitted data. The proposed scheme was proven to ensure the legitimacy of all parties in the system and security of data and transactions, and blockchain technology and signcryption mechanisms were applied to achieve integrity, non-repudiation, and traceability. Security and performance analyses are also provided to prove that the proposed scheme achieved the above security concerns with efficiency.

【Abstract】The development of smart contracts remains in its early stages, with significant differences in underlying programming languages and application platforms resulting in a lack of standardization. This lack of standardization increases the susceptibility to vulnerabilities and associated financial losses. To address security vulnerabilities in smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain platform, this paper proposes a security audit method based on formal verification. The method integrates an input module, static analysis module, formal verification module, analog execution module, and report and recommendation module, which can accurately discover the security vulnerabilities and logical flaws of smart contracts through formal verification and other analysis techniques, thus realizing correctness detection. During the experiment, the method detects 8 types of common vulnerabilities in 148 smart contracts and marks 21 smart contracts with vulnerabilities. After manual review and analysis, it is found that 17 of these 21 marked smart contracts do have security vulnerabilities. The experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately detect security vulnerabilities and logic flaws in smart contracts through formal verification and other analysis techniques before smart contracts are deployed, thus significantly improving the security of smart contracts and reducing the economic losses that may be caused by code defects.

【Abstract】In modern electrical grids, the numbers of customer-owned distributed energy resources (DERs) have increased, and consequently, so have the numbers of points of common coupling (PCC) between the electrical grid and customer-owned DERs. The disruptive operation of and out-of-tolerance outputs from DERs, especially owned DERs, present a risk to power system operations. A common protective measure is to use relays located at the PCC to isolate poorly behaving or out-of-tolerance DERs from the grid. Ensuring the integrity of the data from these relays at the PCC is vital, and blockchain technology could enhance the security of modern electrical grids by providing an accurate means to translate operational constraints into actions/commands for relays. This study demonstrates an advanced power system application solution using distributed ledger technology (DLT) with smart contracts to manage the relay operation at the PCC. The smart contract defines the allowable total power factor (TPF) of the DER output, and the terms of the smart contract are implemented using DLT with a Cyber Grid Guard (CGG) system for a customer-owned DER (wind farm). This article presents flowcharts for the TPF smart contract implemented by the CGG using DLT. The test scenarios were implemented using a real-time simulator containing a CGG system and relay in-the-loop. The data collected from the CGG system were used to execute the TPF smart contract. The desired TPF limits on the grid-side were between +0.9 and +1.0, and the operation of the breakers in the electrical grid and DER sides was controlled by the relay consistent with the provisions of the smart contract. The events from the real-time simulator, CGG, and relay showed a successful implementation of the TPF smart contract with CGG using DLT, proving the efficacy of this approach in general for implementing electrical grid applications for utilities with connections to customer-owned DERs.

【Abstract】The difficulty of regulating carbon trading due to information asymmetry and low consumer trust in low-carbon products are key factors hindering companies from reducing emissions. This paper examines a manufacturer-led secondary low-carbon supply chain consisting of a single supplier and a retailer, focusing on the impact of blockchain technology on carbon transaction costs and consumers' low-carbon preferences. Utilizing Stackelberg game theory, the paper constructs a supply chain decision model for emission reduction, determining the payment matrix and analyzing the stable strategy for blockchain adoption through evolutionary game theory. The findings indicate that retailers' adoption of blockchain technology significantly promotes emission reduction within the supply chain, whereas manufacturers' adoption has minimal impact. Additionally, the study reveals that variations in blockchain adoption costs and carbon quotas result in multiple evolutionary stable strategies. Specifically, when blockchain adoption costs and carbon quotas are below certain thresholds, the system reaches a unique equilibrium where both parties adopt blockchain technology.

【Abstract】Drug trafficking is a crime that is constantly renewing and adapting to new technological advances. With the emergence of cryptocurrencies, many offenders have incorporated this technology in the development of their criminal activities. It is usually assumed that characteristics of this virtual currency such as its security and anonymity could favor criminality. This paper studies the acceptance of cryptocurrencies in online drug markets in Canada. The results show that most marketplaces refuse cryptocurrency as a form of payment. Furthermore, they suggest that this acceptance is based on criteria of business improvement and customer acquisition, with the market's need to take advantage of the cryptocurrency's features being less important. Merchants do not consider their use necessary to protect the development of their criminal activity and therefore most of them do not intend to accept them in the future. The extended TAM has shown to be valuable in elucidating conclusions regarding the acceptance of cryptocurrency in this area.

【Abstract】This article proposes an innovative method to transform reservoir management in petroleum processing through the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain technologies. In response to increasing demands for strict emissions monitoring and regulatory compliance, our approach aims to increase the precision, transparency, and security of data collection and reporting. In our proposed framework, we leverage IoT technology to deploy sensor networks across reservoirs and processing plants. The collected data is integrated into a Blockchain. This creates an immutable and transparent ledger for emissions-related information. Blockchain's decentralized and tamper-proof features preserve data integrity and facilitate secure information sharing between stakeholders, including regulators and operators. Considering the specific scalability and performance requirements for data management in the petroleum industry, we propose a 4-layer system architecture. Our study examines the practical implementation and benefits of this innovative synergy.

【Abstract】. Rising global population and increased demand for fresh food, especially in developing countries, underscore the critical need to address postharvest losses to ensure food security. Effective postharvest practices, supply chain management, and technology are key factors to sustaining produce quality. However, the magnitude and nature of these factors vary between developed and developing countries. Developed countries tend to have more efficient supply chain management systems, a highly skilled workforce, and greater access to advanced technologies, leading to a higher level of produce quality and fewer postharvest losses. In contrast, developing countries often suffer from inadequate infrastructure, a lack of access to modern technologies, a lack of skills to properly grade, sort, package, transport, and store produce, as well as poor quality control. Addressing these issues through improved supply chain management, the adoption of appropriate technologies, and training and education could lead to a reduction in postharvest losses, produce quality that is maintained, and a safer, more secure food supply. This article presents a scoping review of literature on postharvest factors, technologies, and practices resulting in the deterioration and losses of fruits and vegetables in fresh food supply chains, with an emphasis on developing countries. Existing and emerging technologies and supply chain management practices that maintain quality and facilitate the delivery of high-quality produce were highlighted. First, a conceptual framework for supply chains is presented to guide discussion on technical, economic, and policy opportunities and to provide insights that may strengthen the resilience of food systems in developing countries. Next, techniques and practices used in the produce industry were summarized, including how effective supply chain management can maintain quality and reduce postharvest losses at key distribution stages. Finally, recent literature on technology, applications, and barriers to adoption is presented, and strategies to strengthen supply chain resilience in developing countries are discussed.
