Uncertainty and bubbles in cryptocurrencies: Evidence from newly developed uncertainty indices

【Abstract】In this paper, we examine whether newly developed crypto price and policy uncertainty indices based on news coverage (Lucey et al., 2022) are associated with the emergence of bubbles in cryptocurrencies. Using probit regressions, we show that these indices have a higher explanatory power than factors previously considered in the literature. Furthermore, using a random forest model, we show that these classifiers are associated with the largest information gain (reduction in the Gini impurity measure) of the model. While the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the occurrence of bubbles, these crypto uncertainty indices remain the best predictors of bubbles both before and during the pandemic. These results are robust to alternative definitions of a bubble, variations in the time horizon, and the inclusion of various regressors known to be related to the price movements in crypto assets.

BCSoM: Blockchain-based certificateless aggregate signcryption scheme for Internet of Medical Things

【Abstract】The integration of fog computing and blockchain in the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) domain has wholly transformed the healthcare industry and e-health services. In IoMT, the patient's personal health data is shared on an open channel that makes the IoMT system an easy target for attackers. Therefore, confidentiality and authentication are the key security requirements for an IoMT system. Although few works have been proposed to provide secure communication in conventional healthcare infrastructures, limited work has been done to achieve data confidentiality and authentication in blockchain-based IoMT under fog environment. Therefore, this work proposes a blockchain-assisted certificateless aggregate signcryption called BCSoM scheme that achieves data confidentiality and device/patient authentication. In the proposed work, first, IoMT devices generate a signcrypted text and transmit it to an aggregator that generates an aggregated signcrypted text and sends it to a receiver fog server. The receiver fog server verifies the signcrypted text through the blockchain and also performs unsigncryption to retrieve the original message. The proposed scheme is proven secure under the Discrete Logarithm (DL) and Computational Diffe-Hellman (CDH) assumptions. Finally, a thorough performance analysis using the Hyperledger Fabric platform and cryptographic libraries shows that the proposed scheme is computationally more efficient when compared to existing works.

An Intelligent Blockchain-based Secure Link Failure Recovery Framework for Software-defined Internet-of-Things

【Abstract】The frequency of link failures in Internet-of-Things (IoT) network are more than the node failures. Hence, effective link recovery schemes are required for a seamless communication in the IoT. In contrast to traditional networking, the IoT is configured through software-defined networking premise due to its intelligent programmable controller, and orchestration features. SD-IoT with edge computing can help organizations to create a highly flexible and agile IT infrastructure that can adapt quickly to changing business requirements. By automating network operations, optimizing network performance, and improving application availability, SD-IoT can help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of edge computing environments. Moreover, the security is also a prime issue in the IoT, and DDos attacks are typical threats concerning security in IoT. To combat with these challenges, in this paper we propose a reactive recovery strategy for link failures by proposing a TOPSIS module employing multi-objective-decision making in the intelligent SDN controller, which selects the alternative path for the failed link on the end-to-end (E2E) path in a SD-IoT considering multiple criteria instead of the shortest path only as proposed by the conventional methods for failed link recovery. Moreover, DDoS attacks detection as well as mitigation mechanism based on blockchain in SD-IoT with machine learning is proposed. The blockchain guarantee the security for IoT system. The results demonstrated and validated in Mininet with real SDN controller as well as proof-of-concept experiments in real topologies for IoT shows the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our proposed strategy surpass the traditional schemes in terms of network throughput, recovery delay, and packet delivery ratio.

【Abstract】While much has been said regarding the anti-money laundering treatment of crypto-assets, NFTs seem to have remained on the sidelines of such a debate. Collectible NFTs, however, present a distinct AML risk. Eminently, they mix the risk-factor connected with cryptoassets and fine art. As the first, they are global, pseudonymous, and immaterial. As the second, they have a highly subjective price. In the absence of clear regulation, the risk is for this market to become a criminal haven. The present contribution analyses the relation between collectible NFTs and AML regulation. An Efficient and Secure Blockchain Consensus Protocol for Internet of Vehicles

【Abstract】Conventional blockchain consensus protocols tailored for the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) usually face low transaction throughput, high latency, and elevated communication overhead issues. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose ESBCP, an efficient and secure blockchain consensus protocol for the IoV environment. Firstly, considering the significant performance differences among nodes in the IoV, we designed a blockchain consensus model for the IoV. Roadside units execute a trust evaluation mechanism to select high-quality vehicle nodes for the consensus process, thereby reducing the likelihood of malicious nodes in the consensus cluster. Secondly, we designed a node partition strategy to adapt to the dynamic feature of the IoV. Finally, addressing the mobility of nodes in the IoV, we introduced a dynamic unique node list. Vehicle nodes can promptly select nodes with high reliability from the list of communicable nodes to join their unique node list, while also promptly removing nodes with low reliability from their unique node list. Combining these strategies, we propose DK-PBFT, an improved Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance consensus algorithm. The algorithm meets the efficiency and mobility requirements of vehicular networks. Through theoretical analysis, ESBCP could prevent external and internal security risks while reducing communication overhead. Experimental verification demonstrated that ESBCP effectively reduces consensus latency and improves transaction throughput. Our proposed ESBCP can be used in other application scenarios that require high consensus efficiency.

A Blockchain-Based Framework for Rural Property Rights Transactions

【Abstract】Currently, there are several issues in China's rural property rights trading, including poor credit reporting, low transaction efficiency, non-standardized transaction contracts, and high costs for rights protection. However, blockchain technology, known for its convenience, security, and traceability, is highly compatible with the requirements of standardization, convenience, and agility in rural property rights trading. Therefore, we propose a system framework for rural property rights trading based on the Hyperledger Fabric consortium blockchain. This framework significantly enhances transaction efficiency, improves the security of rural property rights trading, effectively resolves contract disputes in property rights transactions, and promotes rural revitalization and development. Furthermore, we design the information data structure on the blockchain, present the information flow, and develop smart contracts that utilize automation capabilities to automatically summarize, analyze, and issue alerts based on on-chain data, enabling risk assessment for both buyers and sellers. Additionally, we introduce an improved PBFT consensus algorithm called CA-PBFT, which is based on the PBFT consensus protocol and integrates a scoring model and simplified consensus protocol. CA-PBFT efficiently reduces transaction response latency and improves information throughput. Finally, we develop a prototype system for rural property rights trading and perform a performance comparison and analysis of CA-PBFT against other PBFT-based consensus algorithms in this prototype system. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the prototype system framework for rural property rights trading.

Virtual Allies: Why Allyship is Critical to Diversification of Virtual Reality Gaming?

【Abstract】More attention is being brought to the identity challenges minority gamers face. However, as the gaming industry moves into virtual spaces and virtual reality (VR) gaming continues to grow in popularity, it is important to understand how identity and the virtual metaverse combine. Using a carnal autoethnography of a competitive woman VR gamer's lived experiences with sexism and misogyny over 6 months, this study explores how many women experience VR games as outsiders in a male-dominated space. Through the application of ambivalent sexism theory, this study shows virtual platform affordances can both help and harm minority gamers in their quest to be accepted in gaming communities. This study is among the first to examine gendered experience of VR gaming, especially from an autoethnographic frame, contributing to existing literature in women and gaming. This work calls on players, developers, educators, and research to emphasize allyship and media literacy to encourage more diverse virtual spaces.

EXAMINATION OF THE IMPACTS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY UNCERTAINTY ON EXCHANGE-TRADED FUNDS

【Abstract】In this paper, we use quantile-based analysis and nonlinear conditional autoregressive value-at-risk (CAViaR) model to investigate how cryptocurrency price and policy uncertainty indexes affect exchange traded funds (ETFs) investing in equity securities of companies operating in various disruptive innovation sectors and related to digital assets and blockchain technology. Results of the quantile-on-quantile (QQ) estimates and quantile regression reveal that cryptocurrency price and policy uncertainty generally have a negative impact on the globally traded ETFs suggesting that the changes in cryptocurrency uncertainty lead to destabilizing effects in the ETF market. Moreover, we find that the impact of cryptocurrency uncertainty is asymmetric depending on each quantile of ETF returns even though each ETF is influenced in the same way by each uncertainty index, indicating that cryptocurrency price uncertainty and cryptocurrency policy uncertainty have common effects on the ETF market. A linear quantile causality analysis indicated that there is evidence of a significant causality running from the considered uncertainty indexes to the ETF returns, revealing that cryptocurrency price and policy uncertainty have a significant information value in explaining expected ETF returns. On the other hand, we find that linear quantile models outperform nonlinear CAViaR models in quantiles that are only moderate.

【摘要】智能合约是一种被大量部署在区块链上的去中心化的应用.由于其具有经济属性,智能合约漏洞会造成潜在的巨大经济和财产损失,并破坏以太坊的稳定生态.因此,智能合约的漏洞检测具有十分重要的意义.当前主流的智能合约漏洞检测方法 (诸如Oyente和Securify)采用基于人工设计的启发式算法,在不同应用场景下的复用性较弱且耗时高,准确率也不高.为了提升漏洞检测效果,针对智能合约的时间戳漏洞,提出基于数据流传播路径学习的智能合约漏洞检测方法 Scruple.所提方法首先获取时间戳漏洞的潜在的数据传播路径,然后对其进行裁剪并利用融入图结构的预训练模型对传播路径进行学习,最后对智能合约是否具有时间戳漏洞进行检测.相比而言,Scruple具有更强的漏洞捕捉能力和泛化能力,传播路径学习的针对性强,避免了对程序整体依赖图学习时造成的层次太深而无法聚焦漏洞的问题.为了验证Scruple的有效性,在真实智能合约的数据集上,开展Scruple方法与13种主流智能合约漏洞检测方法的对比实验.实验结果表明, Scruple在检测时间戳漏洞上的准确率,召回率和F1值分别可以达到0.96, 0.90和0.93,与13种当前主流方法相比,平均相对提升59%, 46%和57%,从而大幅提升时间戳漏洞的检测能力.

【摘要】近年来,区块链技术引起广泛关注,其作为一种分布式账本技术,由于具备开放性、透明性和不可篡改性,已经被应用到诸多领域.但随着用户数量和访问需求的大幅增加,现有区块链体系结构可扩展性不足导致的性能瓶颈,制约了区块链技术的应用和推广,如何解决可扩展性问题已成为学术界和工业界关注的热点.对已有的区块链扩展方案进行分析和总结.首先,介绍区块链基本概念和可扩展性问题的由来,定义可扩展性问题并提出衡量可扩展性的指标.其次,给出分类框架,将现有方案按网络扩展、链上扩展、链下扩展3大类进行介绍,通过对不同的区块链可扩展性方案进行分析,比较各自的技术特点并归纳优缺点.最后,对亟待解决的开放性问题进行讨论,展望区块链技术未来趋势.

【摘要】[目的/意义]应急情报是应急管理的智慧积累和关键要素,对其采集、存储、共享、分析、追溯等环节进行规范治理具有重大实践意义。区块链技术和端边云架构为应急情报治理提供了新的研究视角和技术支持,能够解决应急情报治理中信号识别困难、情报共享滞后、事后追溯受阻等问题。[方法/过程]结合应急情报治理的技术驱动、组织变革、环境优化、数据解构特质,基于TOE框架分析应急情报治理要素,融合区块链技术融合端边云架构构建应急情报治理体系,建立联盟链、私有链、边缘云和云端之间协同交互的治理运作方式,并从情报收集与存储、情报处理与预警、情报共享、情报服务、情报评估、情报溯源6个环节对应急情报治理流程进行阐述。[结果/结论]应用区块链技术的智能合约、共识机制及端边云架构的位置优势、计算优势,能够保障应急情报治理过程中情报存储安全、应急响应速度、情报服务效能及情报共享速率,能够提升应急情报治理效率。
