Migration to the metaverse and its predictors: Attachment to virtual places and metaverse-related threat

【Abstract】The most ambitious visions of metaverse technology promise to create virtual places that offer the same possibilities as the real world. However, as any novel technology, the metaverse raises controversies and questions. Does one want to migrate to the metaverse? Does one's willingness to move to virtual worlds depend on the bonds with existing virtual places and the sense of threat related to this technology? To address these questions, we drew on the theories of place attachment and intergroup threat. In two studies - (1) among users of openworld games (N = 366) and (2) using a sample representative of the Polish population in terms of age, gender and size of the residential place (N = 995) - we observed a low level of willingness to migrate to the metaverse. The participants displayed a high level of perceived metaverse-related threat, ranging from privacy concerns to the belief that metaverse can deprive one of access to essential human experiences. However, greater attachment to virtual, as opposed to real, places was associated with both an increased willingness to migrate to the metaverse and a low level of perceived threat. The results provide a better understanding of individuals' perception of the metaverse and of how the bonds with virtual and real places translate into attitudes towards metaverse technology.

【Abstract】The initial hype and fanfare from the Meta Platforms view of how the metaverse could be brought to life has evolved into an ongoing discussion of not only the metaverse's impact on users and organizations but also the societal and cultural implications of widespread usage. The potential of consumer interaction with brands within the metaverse has engendered significant debate within the marketing-focused discourse on the key challenges and transformative opportunities for marketers. Drawing on insights from expert contributors, this study examines the marketing implications of the hypothetical widespread adoption of the metaverse. We identify new research directions and propose a new framework offering valuable contributions for academia, practice, and policy makers. Our future research agenda culminates in a checklist for researchers which clarifies how the metaverse can be beneficial to digital marketing and advertising, branding, services, value creation, and consumer wellbeing.

A systematic review on the metaverse-based blended English learning

【Abstract】Over the past two decades, various digital technologies have been applied to sustain higher education. As the latest emerging information technology, the metaverse has been a recurring theme to be considered as a new direction to promote blended English learning. This study aims to investigate metaverse-based blended English learning. Through a systematic review based on bibliographic and content analysis, the study attempts to integrate the evidence to generate a model that links the education-based metaverse. The metaverse platforms in which learners' academic success can be significantly enhanced due to a high degree of learner engagement in immersive virtual environments. In addition, the virtual learning experience is restricted by the degree of digital literacy at the same time. To improve instructors' and learners' digital literacy levels, necessary support is indispensable by educational institutions and designers of the metaverse platforms. Meanwhile, this study addresses potential challenges that may hinder sustaining metaverse-based blended English learning, and provides some suggestions based on the previous literature. In future research, we will keep updating and polishing the metaverse-based blended English learning research to provide more detailed guidance for researchers and educators.

A Recommender System for Robust Smart Contract Template Classification

【Abstract】IoT environments are becoming increasingly heterogeneous in terms of their distributions and included entities by collaboratively involving not only data centers known from Cloud computing but also the different types of third-party entities that can provide computing resources. To transparently provide such resources and facilitate trust between the involved entities, it is necessary to develop and implement smart contracts. However, when developing smart contracts, developers face many challenges and concerns, such as security, contracts' correctness, a lack of documentation and/or design patterns, and others. To address this problem, we propose a new recommender system to facilitate the development and implementation of low-cost EVM-enabled smart contracts. The recommender system's algorithm provides the smart contract developer with smart contract templates that match their requirements and that are relevant to the typology of the fog architecture. It mainly relies on OpenZeppelin, a modular, reusable, and secure smart contract library that we use when classifying the smart contracts. The evaluation results indicate that by using our solution, the smart contracts' development times are overall reduced. Moreover, such smart contracts are sustainable for fog-computing IoT environments and applications in low-cost EVM-based ledgers. The recommender system has been successfully implemented in the ONTOCHAIN ecosystem, thus presenting its applicability.

【Abstract】Digitization and automation have always had an immense impact on healthcare. It embraces every new and advanced technology. Recently the world has witnessed the prominence of the metaverse which is an emerging technology in digital space. The metaverse has huge potential to provide a plethora of health services seamlessly to patients and medical professionals with an immersive experience. This paper proposes the amalgamation of artificial intelligence and blockchain in the metaverse to provide better, faster, and more secure healthcare facilities in digital space with a realistic experience. Our proposed architecture can be summarized as follows. It consists of three environments, namely the doctor's environment, the patient's environment, and the metaverse environment. The doctors and patients interact in a metaverse environment assisted by blockchain technology which ensures the safety, security, and privacy of data. The metaverse environment is the main part of our proposed architecture. The doctors, patients, and nurses enter this environment by registering on the blockchain and they are represented by avatars in the metaverse environment. All the consultation activities between the doctor and the patient will be recorded and the data, i.e., images, speech, text, videos, clinical data, etc., will be gathered, transferred, and stored on the blockchain. These data are used for disease prediction and diagnosis by explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) models. The GradCAM and LIME approaches of XAI provide logical reasoning for the prediction of diseases and ensure trust, explainability, interpretability, and transparency regarding the diagnosis and prediction of diseases. Blockchain technology provides data security for patients while enabling transparency, traceability, and immutability regarding their data. These features of blockchain ensure trust among the patients regarding their data. Consequently, this proposed architecture ensures transparency and trust regarding both the diagnosis of diseases and the data security of the patient. We also explored the building block technologies of the metaverse. Furthermore, we also investigated the advantages and challenges of a metaverse in healthcare.

The resilience of cryptocurrency market efficiency to COVID-19 shock

【Abstract】We examine the price disorder and informational efficiency of five cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, BNB, Cardano, Ethereum, and XRP) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this sense, we estimate the permutation entropy and Fisher information measure (FIM). We use these complexity measures to construct the Shannon-Fisher causality plane (SFCP) to map these cryptocurrencies and their respective locations in a two-dimensional plane and then apply the sliding time window approach to study the temporal evolution of informational efficiency. All cryptocurrencies exhibit high but slightly varying informational efficiency during both periods. Cardano was the most efficient cryptocurrency. These results might point to the increasing maturity and lower potential for price predictability, which matter to cryptocurrencies' usage for liquidity risk diversification strategy. A blockchain based secure and privacy aware medical data sharing using smart contract and encryption scheme

【Abstract】With the rapid progress of network information technologies, security in medical data transmission has emerged as a popular research topic. Electronic Health Data (EHR) is vulnerable to security breaches, tampering, manipulation, and data leakage. The blockchain's data integrity, decentralization, and anonymity opened up new possibilities for addressing the aforementioned issues. Therefore, this paper presents a Blockchain-based Access Control Scheme (BACS) with Multiple Party Authority (MPA), smart contract, and proxy re encryption to secure the EHR. The proposed scheme consists of six phases: the registration phase, appointment phase, data aggregation stage, storage phase, query phase, and validation phase. The medical data is encrypted by using a Lightweight Fused Cryptographic (LFC) algorithm with the signature of the patient and doctor to ensure confidentiality and integrity. The encrypted EHR is then stored on Interplanetary File Systems (IPFS), which is a decentralised file storage platform. Moreover, the developed smart contract verifies the authenticity of the users, provides a reputation score for the oracle, and creates a time seal. This enhances the security of the system from external attacks as well as internal attacks. A security analysis is conducted for the proposed method, and the performance is compared with the existing techniques based on encryption time, decryption time, and computation cost.

Aggregator-induced demand response and bidding strategy for electricity market environment based on Ethereum smart contracts

【Abstract】With the liberalization of the Electricity Market (EM), a secure demand response program (DRP) for real-time decisions is needed to enhance the effectiveness, stability, and security of the EM. Customers play a crucial role in DRP as they can offer flexibility when the market demands it. Nevertheless, the aggregator does not fully understand the customer's available DR capacity to accurately bid on market transactions. To do so, the article presents a smart contract based on an optimal bidding strategy for an aggregator that considers customer receptiveness. First, we endeavor to determine the customer's receptiveness concerning various incentives where the home energy management system (HEMS) introduces the employed load adjustment for electrical appliances. Second, the aggregator adopts a rational approach to employing the optimal day-ahead bidding strategy and scheduling for energy storage systems (ESS) to exploit economic benefits. The execution of Ethereum smart contracts in market transactions ensures transparency, security, and superior reliability. A test case with realistic data is presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed bidding strategy. The results confirm that the aggregator determines the optimal bidding value for the next day. An aggregator could generate a profit of $23 from the bidding strategy. The regional transmission system operator delivers 485 kWh of flexibility, of which consumers account for 60% and ESS for 40%, generating a profit of $40 per day. Prosumers selling electricity to the aggregator would make an average profit of $6 per day. Thus, the execution of DRP and a bidding strategy results in economic benefits for the aggregator and other entities in the EM.

The rapid growth of cryptocurrencies: How profitable is trading in digital money?

【Abstract】There has been a tremendous growth in cryptocurrencies, which has challenged policy makers around the globe. We obtain millisecond data of some of the most frequently traded cryptocurrencies - bitcoin, ethereum, ripple, litecoin and dash - and two cryptocurrency indices - CRIX and CCI30 - to examine their profitability. Our profitability findings suggest that cryptocurrency traders generate significant profits after considering reasonable transaction costs. We also observe that cryptocurrency market participants can expand and sustain the levels of profitability levels in the subsequent trading activity. Our robustness checks with more recent post-Covid data are consistent with the initial profitability findings, although we observe lower levels of profits for the two indices and weaker profit persistency for all digital assets.

【Abstract】The application of the metaverse provides a new perspective for educational innovation and talent training in the new century. By creating multi-channel perceptions such as sight, hearing, and touch through the VR/AR/MR immersive environment, the study found that learners' emotional engagement and cognitive level can be effectively improved in the metaverse. The metaverse integrates information technology, intelligent technology, and digital technology to realize a multimodal human-machine interaction and intelligent evaluation. On this basis, a personalized learning space in the educational metaverse is developed, which is researched by the PPG signal of the learning process, the pre-test, and post-test data to verify each other. In addition, it is verified that learners' learning engagement and learning effects are affected in the personalized learning space of the educational metaverse. A comparison of PPG signal-based metaverse learning and real-world classroom learning is taken.

【摘要】[研究目的]在政府数据开放活动面临国家秘密与个人隐私泄露、数据不当利用等一系列风险挑战的大背景下,探讨如何形成政府数据开放风险管控的有效策略,并选择特定技术工具,尝试建构技术赋能下的政府数据开放风险管控新体系。[研究方法]基于理论分析,本文将政府数据开放过程中需求方(社会主体)与供给方(行政主体)的双重匿名状态识别为关键的风险诱发条件,提出相应的风险管控策略,进而甄选区块链与数字水印作为技术工具,破解政府数据开放风险管控新体系的建构难题,并探讨该体系的优势及其给政府带来的挑战。[研究结论]基于需求侧、供给侧双向去匿名化的“全过程阳光”策略,结合区块链、数字水印两种技术工具,新建构的政府数据开放风险管控体系在追溯主体身份与行为、防止数据篡改、强化数据维护责任等方面具有显著的比较优势,同时也在治理能力、组织关系和制度环境三个方面为政府提出了新的挑战。

航运物流区块链平台的投资决策与协调

【摘要】针对货代公司应用区块链技术来构建航运物流平台时,该如何做出最佳投资决策和如何协调供应链成员等问题。本文首先结合航运物流行业的发展现状,提出了以货代公司为主体构建的航运物流区块链平台的概念模型。然后,运用Stackelberg博弈方法,探讨航运物流区块链平台应用下的信息共享对投资决策的影响,并设计了服务成本分摊-收益共享和区块链成本分摊-收益共享两种契约来协调供应链。最后采用数值分析对结果进行验证。研究结果发现:(1)货代公司投资构建航运物流区块链平台的投资阈值大小与单位成本优化系数、需求信息预测量及价格敏感系数有关。(2)虽然货代公司应用航运物流区块链平台要以信息共享为代价,但信息共享能使货代公司和船公司获得更大的收益。(3)在分散决策下的货代公司单独承担区块链成本和服务成本的最优决策与集中决策相比均有较大差距,服务成本共担-收益共享和区块链成本共担-收益共享两种契约在满足一定条件时都可以实现航运供应链的协调,但区块链成本共担-收益共享契约满足的条件更加宽松。研究结果可为货代公司投资构建航运物流区块链平台的决策和协调供应链的成员提供理论指导。
