【Abstract】This paper examines implied volatility spillovers and connectedness between Bitcoin and a broad range of traditional financial assets (U.S. equity market, gold, crude oil, emerging markets and developing markets) from January 8, 2019 to January 20, 2022. Vector Auto-Regression and Generalized Forecast Error Variance Decomposition are used to compare results before COVID-19, during COVID-19 and after the vaccine becomes available. Results indicate higher connectedness during COVID-19 but very low connectedness after the vaccine is available, signaling recovery in financial markets. We also find that Bitcoin is a strong transmitter of volatility during COVID-19.

【Abstract】Innovative edge devices (e.g., smartphones, IoT devices) are becoming much more pervasive in our daily lives. With powerful sensing and computing capabilities, users can generate massive amounts of data. A new business model has emerged where data producers can sell their data to consumers directly to make money. However, how to protect the profit of the data producer from rogue consumers that may resell without authorization remains challenging. In this paper, we propose a smart-contract based protocol to protect the profit of the data producer while allowing consumers to resell the data legitimately. The protocol ensures the revenue is shared with the data producer over authorized reselling, and detects any unauthorized reselling. We also introduce a data relay process that can enhance data accessibility in wireless edge networks. We formulate a revenue sharing problem to maximize the profit of both the data producer and resellers/relayers. We formulate the problem into a two-stage Stackelberg game and determine a ratio to share the reselling revenue between the data producer and resellers/relayers. Extensive simulations show that with resellers and relayers, our mechanism can achieve up to 49.5 percent higher profit for the data producer and resellers/relayers.

【Abstract】Blockchain relies on the underlying peer-to-peer (P2P) networking to broadcast and get up-to-date on the blocks and transactions. Because of the blockchain operations' reliance on the information provided by P2P networking, it is imperative to have high P2P connectivity for the quality of the blockchain system operations and performances. High P2P networking connectivity ensures that a peer node is connected to multiple other peers providing a diverse set of observers of the current state of the blockchain and transactions. However, in a permissionless Bitcoin cryptocurrency network, using the peer identifiers - including the current approach of counting the number of distinct IP addresses and port numbers - can be ineffective in measuring the number of peer connections and estimating the networking connectivity. Such current approach is further challenged by the networking threats manipulating identities. We build a robust estimation engine for the P2P networking connectivity by sensing and processing the P2P networking traffic. We take a systematic approach to study our engine and analyze the followings: the different components of the connectivity estimation engine and how they affect the accuracy performances, the role and the effectiveness of an outlier detection to enhance the connectivity estimation, and the engine's interplay with the Bitcoin protocol. We implement a working Bitcoin prototype connected to the Bitcoin mainnet to validate and improve our engine's performances and evaluate the estimation accuracy and cost efficiency of our connectivity estimation engine. Our results show that our scheme effectively counters the identity-manipulations threats, achieves 96.4% estimation accuracy with a tolerance of one peer connection, and is lightweight in the overheads in the mining rate, thus making it appropriate for the miner deployment.

【Abstract】This study purposes to examine a Granger causality, in the presence of the structural change, between Bitcoin's activity and fossil and renewable energy consumptions. To achieve this goal, the two-regime Markov Switching Granger Causality test-based Vector Autoregressive is employed. The empirical results show that there is a significant structural change in the causality between both energy consumption and Bitcoin's activity as the lower Akaike, and Bayesian information criterion are revealed. Regarding the causality results, our findings reveal a significant bidirectional causality between renewable energy consumption and Bitcoin's activity in both high and low energy consumption regimes. However, in terms of fossil consumption and Bitcoin's activity nexus, it is solely strong evidence of bidirectional causality between them in a low consumption regime. Our results indicate a strong predictive power of Bitcoin's activity in energy consumptions in both peak and non-peak periods, and it is also highlighted that Bitcoin's activity could not be neglected in preparing the energy policy. 【Abstract】The current price guided demand response mechanism is difficult to accurately achieve the expected load reduction goal for the grid company, while the direct control demand response mechanism cannot meet the requirements of users for autonomous power consumption. Therefore, it is necessary to formulate an incentive compatible demand response mechanism to take the needs of demand-side users and the grid company into account. Based on the current bidding demand response program, a two-stage transaction mechanism of demand response quota based on blockchain is proposed in this work. Firstly, a two-stage transaction mechanism for demand response quota considering day-ahead bidding transaction and intra-day double auction transaction is designed. Then, the smart contract is introduced to realize the proposed blockchain-based two-stage transaction mechanism of demand response quota, and all the smart contract functions involved in each business link are customized. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed transaction mechanism of demand response quota is illustrated by the simulation results on the platform of Remix IDE. (C) 2022 The Author(s). 【Abstract】The looming energy crisis is affecting every sector of the world. The dire need to conserve energy has compelled researchers to bring automation to the power sector. The conservation of energy is one of the biggest challenges Third-World countries are facing in general and in Europe due to the Russian-Ukrainian war. There is a need to introduce such systems that can prevent energy loss and let users buy and sell excessive electricity they have. In the field of power and electricity, the Internet of Things (IoT) plays an active role in the conservation of energy. The new concept of smart grids is widely used for efficient transmission. The technique of blockchain can further reduce the wastage of energy and efficient consumption if it is used with smart grids. This article proposes a smart energy meter based on smart grids and blockchain. The proposed implementation is a demonstration containing a few microgrids, each with its very own blockchain. The users will use energy by making transactions, following the smart contracts. The focus is on the peer-to-peer transactions in a microgrid controlled by blockchain. The architectural design outcomes are a smart energy meter, a smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain, and an android application to monitor and control transactions and energy trade via smart contracts with other consumers.

【Abstract】Digital twins technology (DTT) is an application framework with breakthrough rules. With the deep integration of the virtual information world and physical space, it becomes the basis for realizing intelligent machining production lines, which is of great significance to intelligent processing in industrial manufacturing. This review aims to study the application of DTT and the Metaverse in fluid machinery in the past 5 years by summarizing the application status of pumps and fans in fluid machinery from the perspective of DTT and the Metaverse through the collection, classification, and summary of relevant literature in the past 5 years. The research found that in addition to relatively mature applications in intelligent manufacturing, DTT and Metaverse technologies play a critical role in the development of new pump products and technologies and are widely used in numerical simulation and fault detection in fluid machinery for various pumps and other fields. Among fan-type fluid machinery, twin fans can comprehensively use technologies, such as perception, calculation, modeling, and deep learning, to provide efficient smart solutions for fan operation detection, power generation visualization, production monitoring, and operation monitoring. Still, there are some limitations. For example, real-time and accuracy cannot fully meet the requirements in the mechanical environment with high-precision requirements. However, there are also some solutions that have achieved good results. For instance, it is possible to achieve significant noise reduction and better aerodynamic performance of the axial fan by improving the sawtooth parameters of the fan and rearranging the sawtooth area. However, there are few application cases of the Metaverse in fluid machinery. The cases are limited to operating real equipment from a virtual environment and require the combination of virtual reality and DTT. The application effect still needs further verification.

【Abstract】At present, gold and bitcoin have become mainstream assets in market transactions. Due to the volatility of gold and bitcoin prices, we can buy and sell assets like gold and bitcoin the same way we buy and sell stocks. The research goal of this article is to develop an optimal trading strategy that maximizes our post-trade returns. By studying the relationship between the two, on the one hand, it supplements and enriches the theoretical research on the rate of return of gold and Bitcoin, on the other hand, it provides a certain reference for investors to construct investment strategies. The research on the cointegration relationship between them has important practical significance. At the same time, it has important practical significance for the research on the cointegration relationship between bitcoin and gold.

【Abstract】In the future, many activities will be carried out in the Metaverse: hybrid offices and video-based education are just some examples. The way research is carried out could change, too. In this context, this work investigates the possibility of simulating Augmented Reality (AR) user studies on information presentation in a virtual environment. Organizing an industrial setup is complex; thus, most studies are executed in laboratories. However, lab experiments present limitations, e.g., the number and variety of participants and the availability of facilities. User studies may also be carried out by exploiting simulated AR, as an initial step for the Metaverse, where people are connected regardless of their location. This alternative could be used to carry out experiments on AR information presentation to solve common issues, such as the lack of physical equipment to perform component location tasks and the long time required to collect a large sample of users. Indeed, researchers could propose CAD models with information that simulates the same visual realism achieved with true AR. Moreover, multiple tests could be conducted in parallel by not relying on a limited amount of physical equipment per user. In this work, we developed and evaluated a desktop-simulated testing environment (DSTE) to conduct AR information presentation experiments remotely. We applied it in a pilot user study, revealing that the proposed DSTE was effective for the related research goals. Furthermore, 40 participants reported a positive user experience. The evaluation confirms that using a DSTE is promising for collecting and analyzing data from a wide range of people.

【Abstract】In recent years, there has been a national craze for metaverse concerts. However, existing meta-universe concert efforts often focus on immersive visual experiences and lack consideration of the musical and aural experience. But for concerts, it is the beautiful music and the immersive listening experience that deserve the most attention. Therefore, enhancing intelligent and immersive musical experiences is essential for the further development of the metaverse. With this in mind, we propose a metaverse concert generation framework & mdash; from intelligent music generation to stereo conversion and sound field design for virtual concert stages. First, combining the ideas of reinforcement learning and value functions, the Transformer-XL music generation network is improved and used in training all the music in the POP909 dataset. Experiments show that both improved algorithms have advantages over the original method in terms of objective evaluation and subjective evaluation metrics. In addition, this paper validates a neural rendering method that can be used to generate spatial audio based on a binaural-integrated neural network with a fully convolutional technique. And the purely data-driven end-to-end model performs to be more reliable compared with traditional spatial audio generation methods such as HRTF. Finally, we propose a metadata-based audio rendering algorithm to simulate real-world acoustic environments.

【Abstract】Organised crime and cybercriminals use Bitcoin, a popular cryptocurrency, to launder money and move it across borders with impunity. The UK and other countries have legislation to recover the proceeds of crime from criminals. Recent UK case law has recognised cryptocurrency assets as property that can be seized and realised under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). To seize a cryptocurrency asset generally requires access to the private key. Anecdotal evidence suggests that if cryptocurrency is not seized quickly after enforcement action has taken place, it will be transferred to other wallets making it difficult to seize at a future time. We investigate how Bitcoin could be seized from an Electrum or Ledger hardware wallet, during a law enforcement search, using live forensic techniques and a dictionary attack. We conduct a literature review examining the state-of-the-art in Bitcoin application forensics and Bitcoin wallet attacks. Concluding, that there is a gap in research on Bitcoin wallet security and that a significant proportion of the available literature comes from a small group of academics working with industry and law enforcement (Volety et al. 2019; Van Der Horst et al., 2017; Zollner et al., 2019). We then forensically examine the Electrum software wallet and the Ledger Nano S hardware wallet, to establish what artefacts can be recovered to assist in the recovery of Bitcoin from the wallets. Our main contri-bution is a proposed framework for Bitcoin forensic triage, a collection tool to recover Bitcoin artefacts and identifiers, and two proof of concept dictionary-attack tools written in Python and OpenCL.We then evaluate these tools to establish if an attack is practicable using a low-cost cluster of public cloud-based Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) instances. During our investigation, we find a weakness in Electrum's storage of encrypted private keys in RAM. We leverage this to make around 2.4 trillion password guesses. We also demonstrate that we can conduct 16.6 billion guesses against a password protected Ledger seed phrase.Crown Copyright (c) 2022 Published by Elsevier Ltd. 【Abstract】This Article examines the world of risk investing in the cryptoeconomy. The broader crypto market is booming despite the latest downturn. People and institutions are buying in. The question is now how to regulate it. This Article first tackles the question of whether coins, tokens, and other investable cryptoassets are securities. Second, for those cryptoassets that are not securities, this Article seeks to find a regulatory solution that balances promoting innovation with investor protection, just as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would do. To strike the right balance, this Article adopts a proposal by Ian Ayres and Alan Schwartz for policing standard form contracts that accompany consumer product purchases. That is, crypto issuers would be required to include a short, prominent "warning box" on their websites that includes only unexpected and harmful features of the crypto. Coupled with the whitepapers already provided by crypto developers-a shining example of voluntary disclosure working-the warning-box add-on completes the crypto regulation picture and properly balances innovation and investor protection. For well-known cryptos like bitcoin, nothing would be required in the warning box. Risks from investing in bitcoin, from environmental impact to price volatility, are generally understood. Tether developers, however, should have disclosed that their stablecoins were not fully backed by fiat currency reserves by using a warning box, and Ethereum developers should be disclosing that gas fees can be much higher than normal transaction fees investors may be accustomed to. This Article's approach to crypto regulation favors market mechanisms over regulatory overreach in this emerging area.
