【Abstract】The authentication problem is one of the most significant challenges in the applications of Internet of Things (IoT), and the relationship authentication among smart devices is an effective solution to tackle cross-domain issue. In this article, we first abstract a general undirected graph from the authentication relationship among the smart devices in IoT. Then, we formulate the authentication problem into a signature transitivity problem by incorporating accumulator knowledge and a standard digital signature scheme. As a consequence, the legality of authentication is well-verified by computing the signature and witness of the related edges without worrying about whether the devices belong to the same administrative domain or not. Finally, the efficiency and online time of authority are solved by exploring the blockchain technology, which also leads to the assurance of an online 24-hour third party. The results of analysis and comparison show that the proposed scheme CroDA can well address the practical authentication issue.

【Abstract】Massive IoT devices are used for data collection with the fast development of the Internet-of-things (IoT). For example, wearable devices are used to collect users' health data and conduct health monitoring. However, many private information are involved in medical data. Privacy-preserving data classification scheme (PPDC) provided an effective approach to balance the utility and the privacy of data. In the PPDC schemes, a fully trusted auditor is employed to validate the result of data classification. To reduce trust on the auditor, we provide a simplified version of the PPDC scheme. We propose blockchain-based verifiable privacy-preserving data classification protocol (VeriDC) for medical data. It makes the data center check the classification result without involving an auditor. We provide the system model of the verifiable privacy-preserving data classification protocol in blockchain setting and formalize its security model. By using verifiable oblivious pseudorandom function(verifiable OPRF), we can generate a verifiable proof and post it on blockchain to guarantee the transparency of data classification. We present a concrete construction and prove its security. Finally, we compare VeriDC with the related schemes to evaluate the effectiveness of VeriDC.

【Abstract】Paper certificates are difficult to carry, easy to lose, easy to forge and with other security issues, which were not solved until the emergence of blockchain technology. Blockchain technology uses one-way hash functions, asymmetric encryption, digital signatures, consensus mechanisms and smart contracts to achieve decentralization, non-tampering and non-repudiation. Various universities have invested in studying blockchain-based diploma systems. However, the current blockchain diplomatic system still has some defects in terms of security. Most systems can only guarantee that the diploma is true and not forgery, but it cannot be confirmed that the diploma holder is the true recipient, and also cannot guarantee that the issuer is recognized by everyone. In this study, cryptography and biometrics are used to strengthen the connection between the diploma and the recipient, and a blockchain deployment framework composed of educational authority and institutions is proposed to make the identity of the diploma issuer credible. In addition, the Hyperledger Fabric application channel is also used to realize access control among organizations in the consortium. Compared with other researches, our research can not only prevent forged diploma, but also can prevent fake educational institutions and bogus recipient. In addition, this study utilized the channels of the Hyperledger Fabric to design access control for different roles in the consortium. Compared with Ethereum using smart contracts to control access rights, Hyperledger Fabric controls access rights by adjusting the configuration of channels, which makes it more flexible to deal with the changes of access rights.

【Abstract】Advising students through their study plans is one of the essential steps towards academic success. The matching of students' needs and courses offered at a university requires comprehensive planning and scheduling. To avoid the problem of mismatch, which usually leads to cancellation courses with low enrollment, a decisive advising process is deemed necessary. Although such a topic received attention from previous work in the area, we could not trace any research references to the use of blockchain in solving the complex advising process. This research explores a topic that is still in its infancy. Blockchain is a new technology proposed to create an effective advising system based on a decisive preregistration process. The proposed system has adopted a hybrid approach integrating the client-server legacy centralized methodology with the blockchain decentralized approach. Ethereum blockchain network is used in the proposed system to create a consensus-validated advising environment. The smart contracts used in such a system offer the students the freedom to modify the courses selections, based on the map of several students tentatively registered in the courses at any particular time. The proposed system has been analyzed, designed, implemented, and applied empirically on students' records extracted from the Banner Enterprise Resources Planning (Banner-ERP) system. The results are promising and provide a proof of concept. The experimental results have also been compared with students' course requirements reaching a satisfactory level of efficiency in the advising process.

On the Use of Proof-of-Work in Permissioned Blockchains: Security and Fairness

【Abstract】In permissioned blockchains, a set of identifiable miners validates transactions and creates new blocks. In scholarship, the proposed solution for the consensus protocol is usually inspired by the Byzantine fault tolerance (BFT) based on voting rather than the proof-of-work (PoW). The advantage of PoW with respect to BFT is that it allows the final user to evaluate the cost required to change a confirmed transaction without the need to trust the consortium of miners. In this paper, we analyse the problems that arise from the application of PoW in permissioned blockchains. In standard PoW, it may be easy for colluded miners to temporarily reach 50% of the total hash power (HP). Moreover, since mining rewards are not usually expected in permissioned contexts, the problem of balancing the computational efforts among the miners becomes crucial. We propose a solution based on a sliding window algorithm to address these problems and analyse its effectiveness in terms of fairness and security. Furthermore, we present a quantitative, analytical model in order to assess its capacity to balance the hash power provided by heterogeneous miners. Our study considers the trade-off between the need to trust the entire consortium of miners guaranteed by the global HP invested by the mining process and the need to prevent collusion among malicious miners aimed at reaching 50% of the total HP. As a result, the model can be used to find the optimal parameters for the sliding window protocol.

【Abstract】This paper presents a privacy persevering framework for a decentralized stock exchange platform, ensuring anonymity and unlinkability of the investors' accounts and their respective trading activities. The proposed framework meets these privacy requirements by (i) anonymizing both the unique account identifier (NIN) and balance information through customized data generalization and distortion techniques and (ii) making trading transactions unlinkable to their original investors by ensuring that both the NIN and balance are k-anonymous; i.e., k accounts belonging to different investors have the same balance. Moreover, to ensure long-term unlinkability, the process of anonymization is repeated at regular time intervals (every trading session). In addition to anonymity and unlinkability characteristics, the proposed framework is augmented with traceability and non-repudiation features. The simulation experiments with several market sizes and types confirm the effectiveness of the proposed framework in achieving full k-anonymity. Furthermore, to assess the overhead of the proposed privacy algorithms on the trading execution time, we conduct several experiments considering different anonymity levels k. We compare the transaction execution time of our proposed platform against a traditional non-privacy-preserving blockchain-based stock exchange. The obtained results for the worst-case scenarios show an acceptable execution time overhead.

【Abstract】The oil and gas industry involves a high level of operational expenditure and often faces high risks of asset safety and operational failures. It has never been so important to monitor and control the oil field operations remotely in real-time to ensure safety and efficiency. The traditional monitoring and control systems for oil field operations are typically centralized, prone to failure, and lack efficiency. Blockchain technology mitigates the centralization problem by creating a decentralized, immutable and transparent control environment for automatic monitoring and control of industrial operations. In this study, we propose a blockchain-based IoT framework for real-time monitoring and control to increase oil field operation and asset efficiency and safety. We present the key components of the framework, including the system architecture, operation flows, algorithms, and smart contracts. As a proof-of-concept modeling, a smart contract is developed and validated on a blockchain test platform. A comparative analysis shows the advantages of using blockchain technology and smart contract to provide trustworthy and automatic monitoring and control for oil field operations.

【Abstract】Information sharing is essential for coordination and stakeholder integration and is crucial to achieving sustainable supply chain operations. Furthermore, improved information sharing assists retailers by reducing the time spent looking for alternative suppliers to meet the unexpected demand surge during pandemics. Recent advances in networking and distributed ledger technologies have enabled secure, improved information communication and broader connectivity. However, due to system interoperability, information quality, confidentiality, and trust, information cannot be exchanged seamlessly, resulting in the inefficiency of managing supply chain operations. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based inventory sharing approach based on smart contracts using a private Ethereum network to link suppliers and retailers. Our approach combines blockchain technology with decentralized storage to increase transparency, trust, and security of supply chain transactions. We present a generalized mechanism for secure information sharing that includes comprehensive algorithms to capture supply chain stakeholder interactions that enhance trust among participating entities. The smart contract was developed and validated using the Remix IDE, and the code is made publicly available on Github. We analyze the solution for various security vulnerabilities and provide a detailed cost analysis for various stakeholder transactions in the supply chain. Our solution demonstrates that a blockchain-based approach reduces inefficiencies, is economical, commercially viable, and provides improved information connectivity among supply chain stakeholders in a trusted and secure way.

【Abstract】In order for the Internet of things to facilitate information sharing, the technology needs trustworthy mechanisms to ensure safe communications and reliable interactions. Recently, the Social Internet of Things (Social IoT) is introduced as a novel approach that studies the social relationships among the IoT objects and considers them as a social network. In this paper, we leveraged social information from the network and proposed a lightweight blockchain-based trust management system (LBTM) for Social IoT. By leveraging blockchain technology, the proposed framework provides a decentralized solution that enables trust evaluation. We also provided an implementation of the presented framework using an Ethereum-based private blockchain. The experimental results show the proposed solution achieves high performance in the success rate metric for detecting untrustable nodes. These experiments also demonstrate the advantages of the proposed solution in comparison with other works in terms of rating accuracy and cost-efficiency.

【Abstract】Blockchain is a new technology slowly integrating our economy with crytocurrencies such as Bitcoin and many more applications. Bitcoin and other version of it (known as Altcoins) are traded everyday at various cryptocurrency exchanges and have drawn the interest of many investors. These new type of assets are characterised by wild swings in prices and this can lead to great profit as well as large losses. To respond to these dynamics, crypto investors need adequate tools to guide them through their choice of optimal portfolio selection. This paper presents a portfolio selection based on COGARCH and regular vine copula which are able to capture features such as abrupt jumps in prices, heavy-tailed distribution and dependence structure respectively, with the optimal portfolio achieved through the stochastic heuristic algorithm differential evolution known for its global search solution ability. This method shows great performance as compared with other available models and can achieve up to 50% of total returns in some periods of optimization.

【Abstract】In the 4th Industrial Revolution, the healthcare industry is undergoing a paradigm shift from post-care and management systems based on diagnosis and treatment to disease prevention and management based on personal precision medicine. To optimize medical services for individual patients, an open ecosystem for the healthcare industry that allows the exchange and utilization of personal health records (PHRs) is required. However, under the current system of hospital-centered data management, it is difficult to implement the linking and sharing of PHRs in practice. To address this problem, in this study, we present the design and implementation of a patient-centered PHR platform using blockchain technology. This platform achieved transparency and reliability in information management by eliminating the risk of leakage and tampering/altering personal information, which could occur when using a PHR. In addition, the patient-consent system was applied to a PHR; thus, the patient acted as the user with ownership. The proposed blockchain-based PHR platform enables the integration of personal medical information with scattered distribution across multiple hospitals, and allows patients to freely use their health records in their daily lives and emergencies. The proposed platform is expected to serve as a stepping stone for patient-centered healthcare data management and utilization.

【Abstract】This paper analyzes accounting publications of the largest publisher by accounting journals, to evaluate the coverage of accounting directions, and indicate the current popularity of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), and blockchain technology. The source of the 882 accounting articles which support the study is Wiley Online Library. The methods used in this research are based on a cross-sectional survey between the Wiley Online Library and SCImago databases covering the years 2018-2019 only. The results show 33% of the evaluated journals of the Wiley publishers have a high extent of coverage. Among them are the journals with Q1 - the Contemporary Accounting Research (CAR), the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting (JBFA), the Journal of Accounting Research (JAR), the Financial Management journal (FM), and the Journal of Finance (JF). Our study concludes that the most frequent accounting topics published in 2018 and 2019 are management accounting (12%), audit and control (11%), capital ( 11%), and financial statements (8,4%); and the least frequent are IFRS including XBRL (5%) and blockchain technology (2%). We found that the CAR; the Australian Accounting Review (AAR); JBFA; Accounting Perspectives; Abacus have published many topics associated with IFRS and XBRL in 2018-2019. Similarly, Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance, and Management (ISAFM); FM; AAR have published on blockchain issues. This study might help scholars to select an appropriate journal for relevant research and inform them about accounting directions least disclosed in 2018 and 2019 and encourage SCImago to include/exclude some journals to/from the accounting category.

【Abstract】Distributed machine learning can give an adaptable but strong shared condition for the design of trusted AI applications; this is mainly due to lack of privacy of centralised remote learning mechanisms. This notwithstanding, also distributed approaches have been compromised by several attack models (mainly data poisoning): in such a situation, a malicious member of the learning party may inject bad data. As such applications are growing in criticality, learning models must face with security and protection just as with versatility issues. The aim of the paper is to improve these applications by providing extra security features for distributed and federated learning mechanisms: more in the details, the paper examines specific concerns such as the utilisation of blockchain, homomorphic cryptography and meta-modelling techniques to ensure protection as well as other non-functional properties.

【Abstract】This paper presents the use of gamified crowdsourcing for knowledge content validation. Constructing a high-quality knowledge base is crucial for building an intelligent system. We develop a refinement process for the knowledge base of our word retrieval assistant system, where each piece of knowledge is represented as a triple. To validate triples acquired from various sources, we introduce yes/no quizzes and present them to many casual users for their inputs. Only the triples voted yes by a sufficient number of users are incorporated into the main knowledge base. Users are incentivized by rewards based on their contribution to the validation process. To ensure transparency of the reward-giving process, blockchain is utilized to store logs of the users' inputs from which the rewards are calculated. Different strategies are also proposed for selecting the next quiz. The simulation results indicate that the proposed approach has the potential to validate knowledge contents. This paper is a revised version of our conference paper presented at the 12th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS 2020).

【Abstract】Currently, our global financial market faces lots of trouble due to migration from fiat currency to cryptocurrency and its underlying blockchain technology. Blockchain provides trust in a decentralised way for storing, managing, and retrieving the transactions. The double-spending issue arises due to the erroneous transaction verification mechanism in the blockchain. Research has shown that transaction malleability like double-spending creates millions of bitcoins losses to the owners as well as few bitcoin exchanges. This research aims to detect and prevent the double-spending of bitcoins in single and multiple blocks. In this context, double-spend data in a single block is identified using the DPL2A method. Further, the original transaction from the double-spend transaction list is identified using the ACRT method which acts as a prevention of double-spend in a forthcoming occurrence. Similarly, double-spend data in multiple blocks are identified using MBDTD along with the Cognizant Merkle tree. Finally, a system named F2DP is constructed to detect and prevent the double-spend data in inter and intra blocks of the blockchain. The result indicates these methods will act best for double-spend detection and prevention with a limited set of transaction records. Further research is needed to increase the scalability of transaction records.

【Abstract】Despite the increase in literature on financial innovation as a force of change in the financial system, most contributions fail to analyze the relationship between the socio-institutional and technological design of cryptocurrencies. This paper aims to fill this gap by providing a case study of Bitcoin, the most representative of the virtual and cryptocurrencies. We begin by addressing the concept of financial innovation as a social phenomenon embedded in networks of users, technologists, regulations, institutions, culture and history. Secondly, we examine the disruptive and evolutionary nature of the Bitcoin, comparing it with the characteristics of legal tender money. The main conclusions indicate that although Bitcoin represents a disruptive technology in the process of monetary creation through a peer-to-peer network, it is not a new conception of money in its institutional dimension.

【Abstract】Internet of Things (IoT) is the new paradigm to the scaling nature of things and their elements, interconnected, exchanging data over a network supported with nodes. The Ubiquitous use of tiny devices and embedded sensor frameworks has pushed IoT to the forefront of emerging technologies used in many applications like peer-to-peer networks, smart energy grids, home and building automation, vehicle to vehicle communication, and wearable computing devices. This massive growth and extensive use brought forth security risks that could hinder its commencement in many novel applications. The number of interconnected devices leads the way to several entry points for intruders and, along with it, security risks. The sensitive nature of the IoT applications such as health, automation, and energy grids cannot afford security risks. Traditional security mechanisms will not design or develop to secure such an emerging technology as IoT. Existing technologies have to be relied on with the non-existence of security mechanisms for this purpose. Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is one such technology that can reduce the security risks in IoT. The central node vulnerability that can compromise the whole system can be mitigated by eliminating the need for a central node by using the distributed ledger. Blockchain, a distributed ledger technology, has attracted tremendous attention and harnessed in itself a real-world value. However, computationally costly with limited scalability is not entirely suited for the IoT environment. IoT Application (IOTA) technology is the distributed ledger technology that can provide unlimited scalability specifically suitable for the IoT industry. This survey provides an in-depth introduction to how blockchain performs and its constraints in its nature as a generic platform for DLT. In contrast, IOTA is introduced as the technology for IoT, the next-generation blockchain overcoming blockchain's limitations for its use in IoT.

【Abstract】Targets of cyber crime are not exclusive to the private sector. Successful cyber attacks on nation-states have proved that cyber threats can jeopardize significant national interests. In response, nation-states have begun to handle cyber threats at the national defense level, which is titled 'cyber defense.' The cyber defense sector is related to national security, therefore requires robust security technology. Contrary to normal systems, blockchain provides strong security properties without a centralized control entity, and as such its application in the cyber defense field is under the spotlight. In this paper, we present opportunities blockchain provides for cyber defense, research and national projects, and limitations. We constructed a survey of government documents, interviews, related news, technical reports, and research papers from 2016 to 2021. As a result, our research contributes to reducing the gap in blockchain for cyber defense by systematically conducting research and analysis. In our research, we found that not only research but also government-led plans are actively promoting blockchain, which demonstrates that blockchain will play a remarkable role in cyber defense. This paper concludes with suggestions for future research in aspects of the blockchain technology, evaluation, and survey.

【Abstract】The usage of 5G-enabled IoT devices is rising exponentially as humans tend to shift towards a more automated lifestyle. A significant amount of IoT devices is expected to join the network as IoT has allowed interconnection and transmission among global devices which has resulted in generation of enormous diverse data. There is a requirement for a real-time, latency-specific, and network efficient computing paradigm in 5G-enabled smart city infrastructure. Fog computing presents trustworthy solutions to tackle these issues by combining edge users. They store, control, communicate, configure, measure, and manage big data produced by IoT devices. In this survey, the authors have performed a comprehensive study on fog computing and have classified various such paradigms. The authors have performed an extensive evaluation of features, along with the algorithmic and architectural packages deployed in the framework. This survey covers various 5G-enabled Industrial IoT (I-IoT) application settings and unleashes various fog framework-based solutions for numerous real-world application challenges in sustainable smart city infrastructures. Numerous contributions of fog computing towards latency-sensitive applications like healthcare 4.0, smart conveyance, smart waste management, smart energy handling, etc. has also been discussed. Fog computing framework apart from the abilities, also inherits various security flaws from cloud computing paradigm, and these flaws needs to be rectified in the interest of the end user. This survey presents a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art literature schemes to preserve the integrity of data in sustainable smart city infrastructure. Diverse phrases employed for investigating numerous security and privacy concerns in 5G enabled technologies are discussed in a sophisticated approach.

Blockchain Matters-Lex Cryptographia and the Displacement of Legal Symbolics and Imaginaries

【Author】 Becker, Katrin

综述--

【Abstract】This article focusses on the social and legal implications that blockchain technology brings about, not only due to its ideological framework, but also, and especially, due to the concept of law it inaugurates. Thus, this article claims, that, by interlocking technological and legal structures, blockchain technology initiates a profound displacement of legal symbolics and imaginaries. It shows how blockchain law, by emancipating itself from three essential dimensions of law-language, territory, and the body-implies a profound disruption of how we perceive law and its legitimacy. Starting with an overview of the technological details of blockchain, the paper then addresses its ideological context and traces the underlying ideas, values and functions and their relation with-and impact on-the general perception of law and legal issues. By critically assessing the claim that blockchain will liberate the subject from any heteronymic constraints, this paper analyses to what extent this technology has social and legal implications that reach far beyond its virtual, purely blockchain-related scope of applications-and why this technology should matter to us all.

综述--

【Abstract】Purpose The purpose of this paper is to gain some insight into central bank digital currency research by reviewing the recent advances in central bank digital currency (CBDC) research in a way that would help researchers, policy makers and practitioners to take a closer look at CBDC. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses a systematic literature review methodology. Findings The review shows a general consensus that a CBDC is a liability of the central bank and it has cash-like attributes. The review also presents the motivation and benefits of issuing a CBDC such as the need to increase financial inclusion, the need to improve the conduct of monetary policy and to foster efficient digital payments. The review also shows that many central banks are researching the potential to issue CBDCs due to its many benefits. However, a number of studies have called for caution against over-optimism about the potential benefits of CBDC due to the limiting nature of CBDC design and its inability to meet multiple competing goals. Suggested areas for future research are identified such as the need to find the optimal CBDC design that meets all competing objectives, the need for empirical evidence on the effect of CBDC on the cost of credit and financial stability, and the need to find a balance between limiting the CBDC holdings of users and allowing users to hold as much CBDC as they want, and there is a need to undertake country-specific and regional case studies of CBDC design. Originality/value This review paper offers new areas for further research in central bank digital currencies.
