Privacy-Preserving Reputation Systems Based on Blockchain and Other Cryptographic Building Blocks: A Survey

【Abstract】The purpose of a reputation system is to hold the users of a distributed application accountable for their behavior. The reputation of a user is computed as an aggregate of the feedback provided by fellow users in the system. Truthful feedback is clearly a prerequisite for computing a reputation score that accurately represents the behavior of a user. However, it has been observed that users can hesitate in providing truthful feedback because, for example, of fear of retaliation. Privacy-preserving reputation systems enable users to provide feedback in a private and thus uninhibited manner. In this survey, we propose analysis frameworks for privacy-preserving reputation systems. We use these analysis frameworks to reviewand compare the existing approaches. Emphasis is placed on blockchain-based systems as they are a recent significant development in the area. Blockchain-based privacy-preserving reputation systems have properties, such as trustlessness, transparency, and immutability, which prior systems do not have. Our analysis provides several insights and directions for future research. These include leveraging blockchain to its full potential in order to develop truly trustless systems, to achieve some important security properties, and to include defenses against common attacks that have so far not been addressed by most current systems.

Task management in decentralized autonomous organization

【Abstract】In the emerging platform economy, blockchain technologies are reshaping the digital economy. Moreover, disintermediation and decentralization have broken new ground for platform organizations and management mechanisms and instigated the concept of a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). Recent literature on operations management has called for further research on governance issues related to DAOs. In response to this call, we explore the relationship between DAO management efforts and platform performance in this study. Specifically, we propose and theoretically articulate decentralized voting tasks in DAOs as a new form of organizing. Harnessing both online and on-chain data from seven sources, we empirically examine how voting task division, task allocation, reward distribution, and information provision affect platform performance in the context of MakerDAO (an Ethereum-based stablecoin issuance platform). Our findings reveal that strategic decisions arrived at through voting have a positive impact on platform operational performance under certain conditions, whereas operational decisions resulting from voting have a negative impact. Moreover, we elucidate the moderating effects of voting task execution characteristics on the relationship between completed decision tasks and operational performance. These findings have important implications from both theoretical and practical perspectives. We also share all the raw data we use to promote the development of blockchain-related empirical research.

Improving the reliability of the information disclosure in supply chain based on blockchain technology

【Abstract】With many unethical companies have been exposed safety issues, consumers may also question the products of ethical companies without credible product information. Hence, we consider a two-echelon supply chain consisting of a supplier and a retailer (or two competing retailers), in which the supplier and the retailer can adopt blockchain technology to ensure credible product information. Two scenarios are developed - adopting blockchain technology (scenario B) or not (scenario N) - where the supplier needs to determine the information transparency level of the product. Our analysis shows that, in both monopoly and duopoly settings, as the maximum consumers' willingness to pay increases, the total demand and the supplier's profit may decrease when the consumers' transparency awareness is large. As the product cost increases, the supplier will increase the wholesale price while the retailer will reduce the retail price when consumers' awareness of transparency level is in an intermediate range. And the supplier can mitigate the loss of increased product cost by increasing the transparency level if and only if the transparency cost in scenario B is large. The conditions for the adoption of blockchain technology are closely related to the reliability of information and the cost of transparency. Additionally, when the product cost is in an intermediate range or when the cost of transparency is small, subsidy promotes the adoption of blockchain technology in the supply chain system significantly. In the presence of competition, we find that, an online retailer with weak market power can benefit both the offline retailer and the supplier.

【Abstract】In recent years, the digital revolution has involved the agrifood sector. However, the use of the most recent technologies is still limited due to poor data management. The integration, organisation and optimised use of smart data provides the basis for intelligent systems, services, solutions and applications for food chain management. With the purpose of integrating data on food quality, safety, traceability, transparency and authenticity, an EOSC-compatible (European Open Science Cloud) traceability search engine concept for data standardisation, interoperability, knowledge extraction, and data reuse, was developed within the framework of the FNS-Cloud project (GA No. 863059). For the developed model, three specific food supply chains were examined (olive oil, milk, and fishery products) in order to collect, integrate, organise and make available data relating to each step of each chain. For every step of each chain, parameters of interest and parameters of influence-related to nutritional quality, food safety, transparency and authenticity-were identified together with their monitoring systems. The developed model can be very useful for all actors involved in the food supply chain, both to have a quick graphical visualisation of the entire supply chain and for searching, finding and re-using available food data and information.

Factors affecting blockchain adoption in apparel supply chains: does sustainability-oriented supplier development play a moderating role?

【Abstract】Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the intention to adopt blockchain technology (BT) in operations and supply chain and to explore the moderating role of sustainability-oriented supplier development on the effects studied. Design/methodology/approach The authors developed a conceptual framework based on the integration of technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory along with several strands of the literature in supply chain management and information systems. Drawing on survey data from 412 supply firms, a novel model using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was empirically tested in the context of the apparel industry of Bangladesh - the world's second-largest apparel supplier nation. Findings The findings supported the theoretical framework developed. In particular, the findings suggested that supplier firms' intention to adopt blockchain in supply chains is influenced by relative advantage, compatibility, perceived trust, top management considerations, absorptive capacity, information sharing and collaborative culture, and trading partners' influence. However, regulatory support is yet to play a significant role in blockchain adoption behaviour. The findings also suggest that supplier development for sustainability significantly moderates the relationship between the several drivers' (e.g. relative advantage, compatibility, top management considerations and trading partners' influence) effects on blockchain adoption. Practical implications The findings could help in developing an enabling environment for introducing blockchain-based apparel operations and supply chains. Originality/value The study contributes to and expands the embryonic research stream of sustainable supply chain management and BT. In particular, the paper provides neoteric evidence on how supplier development towards achieving sustainability moderates the effects of organizational, technological, and environmental drivers on the intention to adopt BT.

【Abstract】Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) offer a huge amount of potential in a variety of applications, including healthcare, medical, traffic monitoring, military, and industry. UAVs are deployed in association with the Internet of Things (IoT) to facilitate receivers or end-users at the end for delivering IoT services, resulting in a new research domain. The objectives of this research work are to analyze and classify the peer-reviewed research on UAV IoT frameworks and identify the solution towards challenges related to the overall security including the privacy of the frameworks. In the article, an optimum solution for various security and reliability challenges in UAVenabled IoT applications is given using a fusion of several methods combining blockchain-based technologies. The results are obtained and compared on different parameters like overall system utility, accuracy, latency, and processing time. The proposed methodology results highlight the improvement and give novel directions toward future work.

Blockchain technology in construction organizations: risk assessment using trapezoidal fuzzy ordinal priority approach

【Abstract】Purpose In the digital transformation era, the construction industry is not immune to unintended consequences and disruptions of distributed ledger technologies like blockchain. At the micro-level, construction organizations need an in-depth understanding of blockchain risks to take proactive strategies for being on the safe side. This study seeks to answer "What are the risks associated with blockchain technology from the firm-level perspective? And how can this disruptive technology overshadow the business objectives and impact organizational criteria?" Design/methodology/approach The current research proposes a novel model for risk assessment based on the trapezoidal fuzzy ordinal priority approach (OPA-F) in the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) context. The proposed model handles uncertainties of experts' judgment around three primary parameters: the importance of organizational criteria, the impact of blockchain risks on criteria and the probability of risk occurrence. Findings The case study shows that organizational "communication and information" is exposed to the most blockchain risk. On the contrary, blockchain has less to do with an organization's "corporate social responsibility." Furthermore, effective blockchain risk management can bring about cost efficiency, quality and improved customer experience for this case study. In the end, the authors develop a conceptual blockchain risk management framework based on findings. Research limitations/implications This study will broaden researchers' horizons regarding "blockchain in construction context" and "blockchain risk management." Practical implications Furthermore, executives looking for blockchain-based solutions can benefit from research findings and lessons learned from this case study before decision-making. Lastly, the risk assessment model based on trapezoidal OPA-F can be used both for research purposes and industrial decision problems. Originality/value To the best of the authors' knowledge, it is for the first time that the OPA-F is employed in a risk assessment model. Also, the original OPA-F is extended to trapezoidal OPA-F using trapezoidal fuzzy numbers, and it is the first attempt to evaluate blockchain risks facing construction organizations and develop a blockchain risk management framework accordingly.

On the Robustness of Quantum Algorithms for Blockchain Consensus

【Abstract】Blockchain has revolutionized many fields, such as distributed sensor networks, finance, and cryptocurrency. Consensus between distributed network nodes is at the core of such blockchain technologies. The three primary performance measures for any consensus algorithm are scalability, security, and decentralization. This paper evaluates the usefulness and practicality of quantum consensus algorithms for blockchain-enhanced sensor, and computing networks and evaluates them against the aforementioned performance measures. In particular, we investigate their noise robustness against quantum decoherence in quantum processors and over fiber-optic channels. We observe that the quantum noise generally increases the error rate in the list distribution. However, the effect is variable on different quantum consensus schemes. For example, the entanglement-free scheme is more affected than entanglement-based schemes for the local noise cases, while in the case of noisy optical fiber links, the effect is prominent on all quantum consensus schemes. We infer that the current quantum protocols with noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices and noisy quantum communication can only be employed for modular units in intraenterprise-level blockchain, such as Zilliqa, for sensor, and computing networks.

A Controllable Secure Blockchain-Based Electronic Healthcare Records Sharing Scheme

【Abstract】The sharing of electronic healthcare records (EHRs) is important to healthcare and medical research. However, institutions are faced with difficulties in privacy protection and efficiently secure data exchange. The main objective of this study is to propose a controllable secure blockchain-based EHRs sharing scheme. For this purpose, blockchain technologies are combined with interplanetary file systems (IPFS) to provide efficient secure EHRs sharing. Firstly, the IPFS-based EHR file system (IEFS) is designed to save and share large-size EHR files among medical institutions. With the high-throughput content-addressed block storage model and appropriate redundant backup of IPFS, IEFS is tamper-resistant and free of a single point of failure. Secondly, the blockchain is used to implement the blockchain-based EHR abstract system (BEAS) to manipulate EHR abstracts access. In BEAS, the EHR file addresses generated by IEFS are encrypted and saved in EHR abstracts for privacy protection. Since EHR abstracts are encrypted by patients' public keys, the sharing of EHR files is under the control of patients. In our experiment, a prototype system is developed to validate the proposed scheme. The experimental results showed that (1) EHRs are securely shared under the control of patients and (2) EHR files are retrieved at an acceptable speed supported by IPFS technology. In this paper, solutions to some important practical issues such as incapacitated patients, encryption key forgetting/missing, and efficient interaction of doctors with EHRs sharing scheme are also seriously discussed.

Thinking Out of the Blocks: Holochain for Distributed Security in IoT Healthcare

【Abstract】The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is an emerging technology that connects and integrates a massive number of smart physical devices with virtual objects operating in diverse platforms through the internet. Due to massive size and physical spread of many applications such as smart healthcare, IoT is increasingly implemented in distributed setting. This distributed nature of implementation of the entities connected to the IoT networks are exposed to an unprecedented level of privacy and security threats. This is particularly severe for IoT healthcare system as it involves huge volume of sensitive and personal data. Although blockchain has posed to be the solution in this scenario thanks to its inherent distributed ledger technology (DLT), it suffers from a major drawback of rapidly increasing storage and computation requirements with the increase in network size which makes its implementation impractical. This paper proposes a holochain-based security and privacy-preserving framework for IoT healthcare systems that overcomes the scalability challenge and is particularly suited for resource constrained IoT scenarios. Through thorough analysis and performance results, we have demonstrated that the holochain based IoT healthcare solution outperforms blockchain based solution in terms of resource requirements while ensuring appropriate level of privacy and security.

【Abstract】Bangladesh should have owned a decentralized medical record server. We face a lot of issues, such as doctor's appointments, report organization in one spot, and report follow-ups. People now bring a large number of papers to the doctor's chamber. They carry prescriptions, reports, and X-ray files, among other things. It complicates everyone's life as a result. All of the reports must be reviewed by doctors on a regular basis. It is difficult to read old reports on a regular basis, and patients do not receive the correct medications or treatment. Doctors also find it extremely difficult to comprehend handwritten prescriptions. Data security, authenticity, time management, and other areas of data administration are dramatically improved when blockchain (smart contract) technology is linked with standard database management solutions. Blockchain is a groundbreaking, decentralized technology that protects data from unauthorized access. After smart contracts are implemented, the management will be satisfied with the patients. As a result, maintaining data privacy and accountability in the system is tough. It signifies that the information is only accessible to those who have been authenticated. This study focuses on limiting third-party engagement in medical health data and improving data security. Throughout the process, this will improve accessibility and time efficiency. People will feel safer during the payment procedure, which is the most significant benefit. A smart contract and a peer-to-peer encrypted technology were used. The hacker will not be able to gain access to this system since this document uses an immutable ledger. They will not be able to change any of the data if they gain access to the system. If the items are found to be defective, the transaction will be halted. Transaction security will be a viable option for recasting these problems using cryptographic methodologies. We developed a website where patients and doctors will both benefit because of the use of blockchain technology to ensure the security of medical data. We have different profiles for doctors and patients. In the patient profile, they can create their own account by using a unique address, name, and age. This unique address will be created from the genesis block. The unique address is completely private to the owner, who will remain fully secure in our network. After creating an account, the patient can view the doctors' list and they can upload their medical reports such as prescriptions and X-rays. All the records uploaded by the patient will be stored on our local server (Ganache). The records are stored as hashed strings of the data. Those files will also have a unique address, and it will be shown in the patient profile. After granting access, the doctors will be able to view their records in the respective doctor's profile. For accessing the options such as uploading, viewing, or editing the data, Ethereum currency (a fee) will have to be paid in order to complete the request. On the other hand, doctors can enter their profile using their name and unique address. After logging in, they can view their name, unique address, and the list of patients that have granted access to the doctor to view their files. On our website, the front end is handled by JavaScript, ReactJS, HTML, and CSS. The backend is handled by Solidity. Storage is handled by Ganache as the local host. Finally, this paper will show how to ensure that the procedure is as safe as feasible. We are also maintaining transparency and efficiency here.

Congestion Control of Multipath Parallel Transmission of Data for Blockchain Applications

【Abstract】The control of congestion is very important in the parallel transmission of blockchain-based data over high-speed networks. There are drawbacks to the conventional methods, such as interference between different transmission paths, the collision of data, and channel allocation policies to address these problems, there is a need to investigate newer methods for controlling the congestion on multipath channels for parallel transmission of data. The conventional methods cannot reduce the data packet queuing time, the packet loss rate, and latency time of packets. In parallel data transfer, especially in blockchain-based transactions, congestion control is critical. This research proposes and implements a data congestion control approach for multipath parallel transmission on IoT networks. The multipath parallel transmission path is established in this research work to enable the source node to sense the path congestion information in a real-time environment. Finally, the low congestion path is selected to avoid congestion for parallel data transmission and to achieve high throughput over the network channels. The simulation results show that the strategy provided in this paper minimizes data packet queuing time efficiently, boosts network channel throughput, and decreases data packet loss rate.

【摘要】为解决传统智能门禁中用户生物特征易被盗取、监控数据易被伪造等问题,提出一种基于以太坊区块链的智能门禁监控系统。利用智能合约将用户身份信息与监控数据写入区块链,配合硬件设计的身份识别与入侵检测,实现链上链下的协同工作,有效避免集中管理造成的数据篡改以及暴力窃取链下用户信息等潜在问题。根据区块链不可篡改的特性,利用代理合约实现智能合约的升级,达到提升系统扩展性的目的。实验结果表明,在保证身份识别以及监控数据可信的基础上,系统性能可以达到实际应用所需效果。

基于区块链和策略分级的访问控制模型

【摘要】为应对当前访问控制动态变化、策略合约安全性以及策略检索效率的需求,以属性访问控制模型(ABAC)为基础,提出一种基于区块链和策略分级访问控制模型BP-ABAC。结合ABAC和区块链技术,使访问控制策略通过智能合约的方式储存在区块链,合约中对访问控制策略进行策略分级;用户根据等级评估获得相应策略集的访问权限;当请求属性和策略集中的策略相匹配时,获得访问资源权限。实验结果表明,该模型实现了对不同用户访问权限控制和提高访问控制的效率与灵活性,加强了访问控制策略的安全性和隐私性。
